I spoke with the guy in the header dept. at S&P on headers for my 79 elcamino. I explained to him how I had used the original 99 camaro mounts and made my own stands on the crossmember. The headers fit and finish are fine.

FWIW

Their headers might be ok on a stock engine...but I don't like the 1 5/8 primaries they insist on. I don't like that stubby collector that choaks down either. They can't build a set with 1 3/4 primaries because they buy everthing pre-bent in 1 5/8 tubing.

At the LS1's power levels you need a 1 3/4 primary not a 1 5/8 like Street & Performance says is ok. If you going to add a cam or do other bolt on's you'll want a 1 3/4 primary IMO.

I discussed their headers in detail with them for my 91 RS. Talked to about a 1/2 dozen people before talking to the right person that knew the answers to my question. What header for my 91 RS w/LS1.

S&P also told me, their headers will fit IF you use their motor mounts. They had no idea if anyone elses motor mounts would would work when using their headers.

I wasn't inspired with confidense to say the least.

I found a set of used extrude honed ported 2000+ manifolds with 1 3/4 primaries that I'll go with until I can get a custom set of headers done for the RS.

Good Luck

thanx for reply but unfortunately I dont have the option of faxctory manifolds I tried them all, It was what I prefeered in first place. Headers from S&P are
the only ones that will fit,so unless I want to get some custom made they will outflow stock exhaust manifolds till then. thanx guys

I bought some Hedman Block Huggers for my '67 Nova with the Heidt's and they fit...however the finish, actually lack of finish, is bad !!! Mainly that the welds are incomplete and the tubes are welded on the inside of the flange...doesn't make sense to me! May bite the bullet and build my own.......

I bought a set of S&P headers from a member here (Robert).. the fit and finish are great but I do wish they were bigger tubes.. im running a gearbox setup so these were about my only option. I will have to take a little material off the block (trans flange) to make them clear good.. will update once they are actually in the car Here is a pic:

Unfortunsately Camaros are different then the pre '68 Novas.......

The stock '99 Camaro manifold, on the passenger side hits the sub frame to body connection with no chance of grinding, drivers side is OK. I've cut the manifold open hoping to reweld it at a different angle but being a pipe inside a pipe is making that difficult, not a good welder to begin with...still haven't totally ruled that out yet either.

The LS6 Vette manifold hits the cross arm suspension mount, no grinding here either, however an angled spacer for the flange might work.....

I would say to get as much of the stock parts from the donor car including switches and evap canisters etc. Also would suggest the "Helms" manuals, as these are very detailed for the specific year engine.
My particular application is using the manual T56 trans which is self contained. Also the '67 was an automatic trans.... but I'm going to replace the column with the Camaro unit, which will include the cruise control along with the radio control option. I want to make the car as friendly as possible for normal everday use.

I used a stock floor shifter and console out of a monte carlo ss on my elcamino. 3 micro switches and about an hours worth of fabrication. One for neutral safety, one to tell pcm when car is put into gear, one for back-up lights. About $8 for switches, works like a champ.
