LS1 3rd gen first day at track
LS1 3rd gen first day at track Last week was pretty nice out, so I decided to take the car to the track and see what it would do. I know I need stickier tires, but I think it did pretty well. The first run I just smashed the gas and it spun pretty bad and ran a 13.5 (lost to a mustang), second run against the same mustang, I got on the gas a little softer and ran a 12.8 ( beat the mustangs 13.2), and the last run it ran a 12.5 w/2.02 60ft @114.xx, oh and I lifted on it because when it shifted to second it started to spin, then I got back on it. What do you guys think it will run with suspension mods and stickier tires?

I'd say you're right - it DID do pretty well!
Thanks, the track was coastal carolina in jacksonvile,NC. The mods to the car are a vrx4 cam, p&p tb, long tube headers, and a yank ss3600 with stock suspension. I plan on doing the suspension before getting stickier tires.

Way to go bro, I don't know what your goals were, but look at it like this, you went faster than most factory sports cars..... So I would say thats pretty damn good.... Now get that traction thing down..... Try not loading to high and take off..... Concentrate on the MPH and you'll be there... I think your around the corner from high 11's easy.....
Smaller rims would definitely help. I remember when I swapped my stock 16"x8"s for 17"x9.5" Z06s and you could actually feel the difference from the additional rotating mass. If you are really interested in going fast, I'd grab a set of stock 5 stars from a base model 3rd gen and put some sticky tires on them. But definitely keep the custom IROC rims for street cruising, they look great on your car. Makes me miss my third gen. Well done!

when I built it, my goal was to get in the 12's. Now, I cant wait to get in the 11's. I just ordered some nitto nt05's for the street yesterday and they should be in on friday, so ill see how it feels. I also am looking into getting some stock 16" irocs for the track. Ill post up another vid next time I go to the track. I hope to see 11's with better tires. I literally left about as hard as I do at a regular street light, because if I got on it would just spin. Ill keep you posted.
