Question How much $$$

How much are totaled F-body cars going for and where did you find your drivetrain? I am looking for a whole car to buy, but haven't had any luck so far. I guess I could just look for the engine/trans, but I would prefer to pick up a complete totaled car so I will get everything I may need.

I got a 1200 mile complete 2002 LS1 and tranny for $6500 on eBay. That included the entire engine with all the accessories and the harness w/PCM. You can get them for less with higher mileage. After pricing new engines, I thought it was a good deal. Don't bother with a whole car, you won't need most of it.

anywhere between 3-6k for a f-cked up car. its a good idea, you can sell of the other **** cheap and get the motor at a discount. I like the idea of having the whole car as you can incorporate many little things from the f-car...

That's about what I was thinking. Now if I can just find one. We've located a custom frame that has an 81 Malibu frt. and rear clip assembly cut and refabed with a ladder style mid section made specifically for the 55-59 trucks. The guy who has the chassis ended up going with an earlier model frame that is a few inches wider so this one is priced pretty nice right now. I think this will be a much easier swap using the frame with the late model frt. clip than fabricating everthing around the 1955 technology.

We want the whole car for anything that comes up, and plus like you said, you can turn around and sell off the stuff you don't use and hopefully re-coup a little of your money over time. I'm thinking we're going to have to find someone who totals there car and try to buy it from them for 500-700 dollars more than the insurance will sell it to them for. That way they make a few hundred bucks and everyone is happy. Time to start making the rounds to body/chassis shop I guess. Any other ideas on where to pick up a totaled car?

Hey im intrested in one too, Im from Mission,Tx. I currently own a 1985 Iroc-Z that I would like to put a LS-1 with auto on it. Ive searched the nearby junkyards but they keep saying that those engines sell fast. I would also like to know of a place (shop) that does this type of conversions to get an estimate more or less, somewhere close preferbly on the state of TEXAS.

I talked to a couple of guys around Dallas that had LS1s with T56s for $3500-4k. I could find some names and phone numbers if you're interested in just motor/tranny/wiring/computer/accessories. I didn't want to pay that much and found a cheaper deal elsewhere.

I really want to go the whole car route first, but that may end up being the only option.
