No oil pressure on my new engine!! HELP!
i just finished up my new carbed 6.0 for my 94 z28. I am using the one wire sending unit for my oil pressure and tapped it into my harness in the passenger floor board to the tan wire like the pin out said. I turned the motor over a few times with the starter with the ignition unplugged so it wouldnt fire to build some pressure. I plugged the ingnition back in and the motor started great and i let it run for 5-8 seconds but it didnt show any pressure. I have a hard time believing that there is a problem with the engine...but im not sure. What do i need to do next??

+1 on getting a mechanical gauge. How hard is it to get to the sender in a camaro?
Are you sure your sender and gauge are compatible, have you ever seen them work together before? Double check you have the signal wire in the correct location.

While you are trouble shooting it pull all the plugs. That will allow the engine to spin faster and build pressure. Obviously don't start it until you get pressure.
You can pull a valve cover to double check oil flow.

If this engine has setting long you may just need to prime the pump. I had that problem with my used ls1. There is a plug on the lower drivers side of the block that is just past the outlet oil pump. You can pull it and spin it over and see if oil is coming out of that plug. If so the pump is working.

If this is a new engine or even a used engine sitting a little while, he SHOULD prime it. Better safe than sorry. I am **** on curtain things. LOL

yeah. and ***IF*** it is a bad oilring seal, don't worry about the damage you could be causing, its not my engine. LOL.
Is this a engine you swapped the oilpan assembly? If so....prime it. If its a engine thats hasn't sat too long (more than a yr) remove the plug on the drivers front as ROCKYTOPPER states. and spin it.

Priming LS motors is not as simple as the first gen days. Most guys just pull the plugs and crank until they get pressure. That worked for me with my crate motor. Got oil pressure with well less than 30 seconds of cranking. The oil pressure switch hooked to the fuel pump confirmed what the gauge was reading.
Other guys say to overfill the crank case then tilt the motor to help prime the pump. A hand full of other guys went so far as making oil reservoirs they can pressurize with compressed air and plumbed them into an oil galley plug. That sounds like a pretty through way, althought I don't see how one could disconnect the reservoir without having all the oil drain back out.
Any way you do it has some draw backs.

Build a 5 gal pal/oilpump primer like the guys at CarCraft did. Go to their site and do a search. OR. get a air powered luber from EngineQuest ot of Vegas.

His method is NOT to " correct" way. but "whatever"

whats the " drawback" of priming a engine properly? Yes it costs more. whether you build a pal/pump or buy the EngineQuest luber, but its done correctly. Money is tight here with my swap, but I am not going to chance any damage on a engine that has sat for who know how long.
OK. I am done. ( getting of his "soapbox" and blending in with the other LS1Tech readers)

Well I didn't go into it blindly. I spent quite a bit of time reading posts and looking at what other people did. Like I said above most guys on here just cranked it over to prime. I had zero issues with it and would do it again.
I presented enough info that anyone taking the time to fully read the post can make an informed decision.

I'm the one that pioneered the overfill the crank case method. It worked for me I was about to put a gun to my head after pulling and reinstalling the engine 3 times and still no pressure. good luck

Got pressure
Glad to hear to built pressure regaurdless how you did it.
