4L60 Shifter Choices?
4L60 Shifter Choices? Hello- We've put an LS1/4l60 combination in a fox chassis car. We're using the stock computer from the Camaro that this came from, and we noticed that we need the shifter to be able to show us when it's in OD and when it's in neutral. The mustang shifter doesn't have switches for this. Are you guys just using the F-body shifter somehow, or are there aftermarket shifters that will do this?

Most of the aftermarket shifters do not have very good indicators, or any indicators at all for that matter! Dakota digital has an extremely good decoder that will indicate what gear you are in , provide neutral safety, and provide a backup light as well. I have used their encoder on several LS hybrids and am tickled with the ease of setup and the reliability. I just bought another last week for my current A6 hybrid. I have used several simple switch type indicator encoders, like Lokar, and have constant problems with them staying calibrated to the linkage. No such problems with the DD unit. Their encoder does not care what trans it is being used on, or how many gears it has. It will set up on everything from the most basic 2 speed powerglide to any of the new overdrive transmissions.

I usually use the DGS-4 because I usually am fabricating an entire new instrument panel. It gives a high-beam indicator, turn signals, and a check engine light integrated into it. No sense spending the extra money if you don't need all these options.

If your talking about the computor getting a signal from the shifter thats not an issue as the shifter/park neutral switch is made on the transmission. On that note in my 71 truck I used a 2001 truck cluster and loved having the shift indicator in the cluster.
