Hey guys, what transmission crossmember are you guys using & liking?
I made 1, but it goes straight accross. I would like my exhaust tucked up higher. It looks like a th400 can be used with only little mods.
Oh ya, this is for my 72 with a 4l65e tranny.
Thanks

I'd cut it and weld in round or square tube a la this (gusseted, of course).

Default 62-67 Nova Tranny Crossmember for 4L60 Tranny

What has anyone used on a Tranny Crossmember for 62-67 Chev II Nova?
Is there a aftermarket one you can buy that just bolts in? I wanna make sure the pinion angle is on the money etc, otherwise what works that someone has modified to make work with the correct angle etc.
Thanks

If you buy parts and not a complete Kit.. nothing is really true bolt in. As you mix and Match parts, They are not design to work together most of the time. So if you buy a crossmember thinking it will be bolt in and correct angles.. it might be, it might not !... this is due to the Engine mounts... it could mount the engine lower or higher and that will change the engine/trans/pinion angle. There is always some adjustment that well be needed.

try G-Force as a starter, they seem to have many models and opnions for most cars.

But, good luck and keep the posts coming

I wonder how many more edits will be needed before I get done lol.

Thanks for maintaining this thread. It's a wealth of info. I'm not sure if you'd want to take it on, but it might be good to include 1st & 2nd gen F bodies also since swap info for those also applies to '68-'79 Novas.

Haha, F those guys and they're more desirable cars (1st gens anyway). Maybe if someone donates one to me and bankrolls a swap, I'll think about it.

And you keep updating yours... remember, your tinkering helps others figure out what NOT to do.

I'm working on my 72' Nova transformation from a big block to a LQ4 and a turbo. I will soon post pics and info when I get toward the end of my build.

well guys im jumping into this too....

I have a few questions but have been reading for a long time.... one thing that still gets me is people talk about one inch set back mounts is that one inch back from where the stock motor was so it moves the trans back one inch or is that one inch back so it mates to the trans in the stock location?

I bought a set of mount back when i was going to do this the first time and i think they are wrong. I just want to keep the trans where it is so i don't have to get another new drive shaft.

it is going to be a stock (for now) LS3 in a 70 nova th400 nine inch ladder bar car.

The setback does not refer to a comparison with the original small block positioning. In fact, it takes about 1-1/4" setback for the transmission bellhousing mounting surface of the LS engine to be in the same location as the original small block. The problem is this often doesn't fit in these cars because the back of the passenger side head can interfere with the firewall.

I bought the 1" set back mounts for my 70 and they didn't work for me. I have a completely smooth firewall and the heads would run into the firewall before the motor could sit down on the mounts. I bought a set of neutral (no set back) mounting plates and it dropped in like it was supposed to be there. My driveshaft still fit and I'm running a th400 also.

No, but here's a link to the seller. I got 'em on Ebay from Wisner Machine Works and they are everything I expected.
