Default power steering pump lines

I have 2006 LQ9. The power steering pump has 3 lines. 1 high pressure & 1 return. What is the 3rd line? Is it for the hydroboost? Can I just cap it? If so, how do I cap it?
Thanks

I believe you are correct. Hydroboost. I think people do just cap them. Try a " SEARCH" its been discussed MANY times before. Sorry I couldn't help more.

If you arne't already aware... you can un-thread the pressure line fitting, and thread in the one from your nova's power steering pump. It worked on my truck anyway! This helps so you don't need to have a custom line built.

How do you cap it off???
Is it something you buy or can you weld it shut?
I have not had much luck with the "search" button.

Use any sort of oil safe rubber cap. The return side is not pressurized

I thought I needed to cap 1 of high pressure sides?? The 1 that went to the hydroboost. There are 2 coming out of the bottom. I was assuming it was 1 of those.

that picture shows 1 high pressure line, and 2 low pressure lines (thin hose held on by spring clamps)

i capped that upper line with a standard rubber cap and a hose clamp. it didn't last long - puked everywhere the other day. now i'm trying to figure out a higher-strength solution to my problem aside from welding the damn thing shut. let me know what you find.

Can anyone else verify this statement?

Hookemdevils22, I asked Frojoe what he suggested. Here is his response, and it is what I am doing:

Yes my PS pump had three ports: a metric fitting on the bottom for high-pressure, and two 3/8" hose ports on the side for return, originally meant for one from the steering rack and the other from the hydroboost. I originally used one for return from the steering box and then blocked the other one off by hose clamping a 2-inch long bit of 3/8" hose with a 3/8" bolt in the end of it, with a hose clamp clamping the hose to the bolt threads. I've since decided to include hydroboost so all the ports will be used up.

Cheers,
Joe

You could simply replace the pump. The old style pumps arent exactly hard to find

You could just pick up a pump from a 1/2 ton truck, which wouldn't have the hydroboost port on top. You could also pick up just a reservoir, and swap the pump over.

yeah, the best route would be picking up a non-hydroboost pump. but i'm not exactly excited about replacing the pump right meow.

I haven't fired mine up yet but I do need to cap off the 3rd line. I was thinking about threading it with a tap, screwing a bolt in and use some thread sealer. My 6.0 is already in my 72 GMC truck so I don't want to borrow the pulley tool and switch pumps. What do you think?

give it a shot and report back. my only reservation would be contamination from the tapping process.

I plan on putting a bunch of grease on the tap so that the shavings stick to it. I just need to find out what size hole it is and what size tap I need. Probably do it tomorrow.
