I haven't put it on a dyno or the track just yet. I plan to make some track hits soon before pulling the torque converter out. Right now I am limited to 8 psi on the wastegate springs. I'm thinking about adding at least a manual boost controller so I can bump it up a little more if the slicks hold at the track. Eventually I'll add a programmable boost controller - after my budget recovers.

I crawled around under the car last night. No major leaks - just a little mist from oil from the dipstick and valve cover vents. Made it through the weekend of street driving without tearing anything up.

I can't quit watching that dang video! Makes me want to rip my engine back down and swap pistons more suitable for boost. My tuner said I could boost the engine in it's current configuration but keep it to a max of 6psi. I am not sure if it would be worth the effort and money. I am at 11.25/11.50:1 right now, whats your opinion on this?

I'm at 9.2:1 and I'm running 12-13psi thru it at only 91octane with zero knock, I imagine you'd need pretty high octane to run 6psi, but it seems possible. Not sure how worth all the effort is tho

E85 and keep the timing low....best way to keep that motor from popping.

That's good information - thanks.
I calculate my static compression around 9:1 and plan to stick with 93 octane. I was hoping to work my way up to 14 or 15psi on pump gas. I was told that I left power on the table by dropping the compression ratio with the dished pistons. A lot of people are successfully boosting 10:1+ engines - especially with E85. I chose to build a larger cubic inch motor with a little lower CR in an effort to make as much power as possible on 93 octane. I wanted a driver that had decent off boost torque and minimal spool time. I've read arguments for high CR and lower boost vs low CR and higher boost. I'm not smart enough to answer that debate, but I sure am enjoying the combination that I ended up with.

Looks like I'm going to need some cash to buy a new 9½" PTC converter. Time to put together a classified ad with some of the left over parts I've accumulated. Does the bleeding ever stop frojoe?

Exactly why I went with my combo. Marktainium is running 8.5:1 but plans to run as close to 20psi on 94 as possible, I believe he's running 16-17psi right now with no knock problems but also spent a lot of time tweaking the spark table on the dyno to ensure everything was safe. He made up for the low 8.5:1 by stroking to 6.6L.

With my stock 6.0L I wanted a happy compromise to keep it a little lively out of boost, but still have that door open if I want to explore 14-15psi+.

What fun is driving a car casually (out of boost, weird idea.. I know) if you have to constantly have to put 94+ or meth injection in it just to keep detonation in check when you do decide to get into it... some twisted minds might almost use that to justify getting into boost more often than is moral just to not "waste" the gas

And no, the bleeding never stops, haha. But keep chugging along, you have a beauty of a setup there!

Rear wheels are 15"x8" with 5" bs and 275-60-15 tires. Right now the only race tires I have are 26"x9" Hoosier slicks. I'll be buying some 275-60-15 drag radials soon.

Several years ago I faced the dilema of wanting full 3" tailpipes to the rear bumper, gas tank in the stock location and not enough room left for mini tubs. So I solved that by taking the easy road and not cutting the wheel wells. So for now I'll stick with 275-60 and see how far I can get on them. It's quite an accomplishment to build a car with power, good suspension, and good cosmetics. I've compromised my build in many areas in order to get it running and keep me motivated. I try to convince myself that I am looking forward to the challenge of getting the best ET out of my assembly of parts. Hopefully it wont be a dismal smoke and mirror show.

Well I already found the first weak link, and that was even before bolting on sticky tires. I took a co-worker for a short "acceleration test" and busted 2 teeth off the pinion gear. That happened during a 55 mph roll in 2nd gear. I suspect it was a fatigue failure. The 3.73s had been in service for over 10 years with a lot of nitrous abuse.

I was already considering dropping my 3.73 gears for something more highway friendly so it isn't a huge disappointment. I have a set of 3.08 gears coming. My long term plan is to save up and buy a more robust differential to replace the 10 bolt.

I'll have it back on the road soon 2ndGenLSX. Are you planning on going to CBI's show the first Saturday in December?

omg this build is too sick. we have a 72, was debating on a big block but after threads like this hoping to get started with a mild 5.3 twin setup soon. already have the motor, and a couple different sets of manifolds to try, and an fbody oil pan. but after reading this i feel it's over my mechanical ability on some of this stuff. i guess ill have to learn as i go though. ofcourse, you are far more particular than i would probably be, but still...

bravo, cant wait to see track videos.
