1999 Camaro v6 to ls1 swap
Have a friend that is considering buying a v6 1999 Camaro to do an ls1 swap.
Just need a ballpark estimate on total cost for all parts necessary, including engine and automatic transmission in good condition. Assume he's doing all work himself.
Also a short list of just the main components, other than engine/trans, that would need to be purchased to make everything compatible.
I'm guessing it's cheaper or very close these days, and obviously way easier, to just get an ls1 equipped car to begin with.

With the prices of ls1 f-bodies right now, it seems to be more worth it to find an ls car than do a swap into a v6. I've seen people pick up 98-02 ls f-bodies for 3k. Better than paying 2k for motor trans....and a $500-1000 for a roller.

Its not worth it i was going to do the same thing about 2 weeks ago i even bought the v6 car to do the swap but it was going to cost me 2500 for mounts wire harness ecu k member motor tranny and that was a deal for all that to but therea few other things u got to get.. I have found good running ls1 cars for 3500 4000 that u dont have to put no money into....

If you don't know the answers to the above questions, you don't need to be attempting this swap. I would suggest getting the LS car to start with. I know these cars inside and out and I would still be hesitant about going through the trouble.

listen to ^^^^^ or do a turbo or blower set up with a V6,way more $$$$$$$$$ and fabrication then buying a ls1 F-body.saw a v6 camaro in gm hitech with a turbo run 10.85.

I bought a 99 z28 M6 with 95k for $4000. It needed the driver window motor and door panel! LOL. Just be patient and you'll find one..Speaking of which..here's one!

Yea I know they are cheap, I have 2 ls1 f-bods .
Friend wanted to know this cause I guess he can trade his truck with someone for the camaro + 3k cash.
Thx for the advice though, I will him know it's not a good idea if he wants an ls1 ultimately.

I did this swap 2 weeks ago but I had a donor car and it took me and 3 other plumbers exactly 14 hours it was the easiest swap I have ever done but having the donor car made all the differance. We swaped motor, tranny, K frame, AC, fuel tank, pump and lines, 9 inch and most of all the wiring and all the supercharger and piping . thanks j

I see it like this:
My v6 has a V6 VIN for insurance purposes, right? So when i swap in the whole driveline from a salvaged LT/LS car, insurance wont sky rocket within minutes...
So its like this:
Buy an LS1/LT1 powered car > insurance skyrockets.
Buy a swap for the price of LS1/LT1 > insurance stays the same UNLESS you claim it.
plus, with a swap, you have more freedom to BUILD it how you want it per say. I plan on changing cams, heads, exhaust, and bits here and there.... so if i can just find a block and build it over the winter then im satisfied.

Liability will be the same for a v6 or v8. I dont run full coverage on cars that I own. If someone hits me then they can pay for it. Insurance is cheaper for my camaro than my truck, and my truck is a V6. Doing a swap for build freedom is dumb, you can build an ls1 car however you want it.

Ehh, this is stupid. Buy an LS car outright if you're not gonna mod the hell out of it. If you wanna do it to save 80+ bucks a year on insurance that's stupid also.
