Default 1968 Firebird LQ4 Touching K-Member, Looking for ideas

My basic problem is the front of the oil pan is like .0001mm from touching the k-member. I have read every post on engine mounting a dozen times. I have tried both frame stand/mount combinations and the result is the same. Currently I am using the shorter stands with tall/narrow mounts. Distance from the firewall is spot on. I am using S&P type plates. I have tried flipping both the plates and the frame stands. I have not resorted to using shims or washers under the mounts or stands yet. I am using an LH8 oil pan (which I know hangs to low but that is another issue). It seems most people with this setup in a 1st Gen have at least 1/2" of clearance between the pan and the k-member. Any ideas?

Get a f body pan or shim it it won't take much. My lh8 was barely touching in my chevelle and I used some 16ga under my frame stands and that gave me bout 1/4" between the pan and cross.

It's difficult to find someone who has the exact same combination of oil pan, engine plates, and engine mounts. If you are set on using the mounts you already have, then you will either need to shim or notch your cross member. I did a notch in my Nova's cross member underneath the oil pan. I cut the cross member parallel to the pan on each side and at the front edge of the pan. Then I folded the piece down (cut on 3 sides) and welded it back together using some ½"x½" angle.

This info helps a lot, especially the pictures. I am going to try shimming next. Anyone have a recommendation for the minimal distance between the cross member and the oil pan? I have poly mounts so hopefully the motor won't move too much.

With the shape of the pan you really only need very minimal clearance. So I am very satisfied with 1/4"

I did this with a 68 Camaro and here is where I ended up:

Retro LSX oil pan
Tall frame mounts
Low drivers alt had to be changed from L92 to 98 Camaro alternator since its smaller.

Here are pics before the L92 alternator was replaced:

Other oil pans hung below the crossmember about 1". Hate for that to be the first thing a car hits.

I have this problem as well, w/ LY6pan and 67 camaro. I shimmed my mounts up. It worked to gain the pan/frame clearence, BUT I can NOT get the driveline angles right - because the front of the engine is too high, and I cant raise the trans enough to compensate. I will cut and mod my crossmember like shown in the above post this winter so I can fix the angles.

I have a rack & pinion conversion on my 67 and an 02 Silverado oil pan with about 1 1/2 off the sump appears to clear ok and should not hang below the rack's mounting bracket when combined with some shims (~1/8") under the mounts.

I'm using Speedway's adapter plates, Prothane poly mounts and the standard SBC frame mounts.

I may be able to post up some pics next week.
