Default ls1 intake on 5.3

hey guys im working on a 5.3 turbo build for my 79 malibu. i was wanting to swap the intake to the car style. but was wanting to know if i would gain anything by it? i know most if the people swap them for height problems but it not really a case in my car. i like the look of the car intake and i was thinking it may help out on top end? i know the truck intakes are more for torque?

I've read/heard that the truck intakes flow a little better and have a little more plenum volume which helps out for boost, I really don't know if that helps you much. My $.02

Ya the car intake will prob give you alittle more top end, and yes the truck intake a little more torque down low. depends which you want more? if you are still using the stock truck accesories then the car intake will require a bit of screwing around to make it fit, like trimming the accesory bracket near the alternator and relocating that idler pulley, also the truck water pump outlet will interfere with the throttle body on a ls1 style intake i believe, also fuel rails, injectors etc you would need to get with the ls1 intake. IMO its not worth the hassle for the couple extra ponies you might pick up. Find a later model truck engine cover and spray it up nice and youl have a good looking package as is.

If you do end up going with the car style you might as well go with the ls6 instead of the ls1. The ls6 flows better and its a direct swap.

LS6 version over LS1 version probably isn't worth the cost difference for a stock-cammed 5.3.
And since you can fit the truck intake, you can do the TBSS intake manifold, brand new, for all the gains of the LS6 version, but at a much lower cost.
