Sounds cool but the AMC guys will be flipping their wigs and telling you why AMC engines are so much better.

Well, it was a great thought, until you added THAT detail.

No overdrive = no fun. Lousy mileage, lots of noise, increased drivetrain wear to name a few...

if it was a strip build id say th400 is good to go, but for a fun to drive swap..

t56 all the way

regardless, id like to see it. amcs are by far the rarest musclecars around here.

I wanted to use the 400 because I already have it and wouldn't need to buy one. What's the best way to get it wired? Use the stock and modify or save money and buy stand alone harness

Take that AMC engine out, use it as a boat anchor, and do your swap. I had a Gremlin back in the early 80's with a straight six. it got 14 mpg on a GOOD day and was a slug.

Good idea, I'd go with a 4L60E or T56 other than that nice idea. My dad is a AMC guy, has a nice 68 Javelin with a stroker 401, I'm sure he'd shoot you for this. LoL I won't.

Actually I've owned other AMCs over the years. That Gremlin was my first car. Also had a 74 Hornet station wagon with a 304 and an 82 Spirit with a 258 straight six and 5-speed. They were all dogs. Now a Gremlin with a LS engine will be cool as hell.

I had a 66 GTO with a L72 427 big block chevy before I bought a new 2000 Corvette Hardtop. Ran good. REALLY good. my Corvette STOCK will run CIRCLES around that GTO. My first comment after driving the Vette was "It pulls just like a big block." Saw this in a Hot Rod a month or two ago:

They rear wheel dynoed a 70 LS6 Chevelle and L72 69 Camaro. LS6 was factory rated at 450hp and the L72 at 425hp. AT THE REAR WHEELS both cars pulled about 280hp.

Having owned several classic muscle cars over the years, I can testify that the modern LS engines are far superior. I have a 73 Corvette with a 383 small block chevy. Nice car. Sounds GREAT and runs ok for what it is... but I am pulling that engine for a LS1 with 4L60E out of a Y2K Camaro. I used to love that old school stuff but the modern LS engine is a hot-rodders gift from heaven.

I used lt1swap.com, really great info. The harness can be a little intimidating, but take your time.

only if it's a 2nd gen, pref. a cassini or barcelona coupe. that would be bitchin'.

you really can't go wrong though... those things are completely beastly - it would take a real man to swap an LS into one and actually drive it around. please get a pic with your best 70s attire and **** stache whence you've finished.

I can't even imagine. My father has an 100% original 1973 Grabber Maverick, and you should HEAR the stuff that comes out of his mouth regarding some of my cars. He is one of those true "Ford Blue" for life kinda guys. He HATES the stuff I mess with.... my Mustang kills him a little inside I think even talking about it.

As for the AMC! Do it!.....don't want RUN, to get it finished.

You can always add a gear vendors over drive unit to the 400 and it won't break like a flimsy 4L60E and it will outrun a T56 in the quarter.

Yea it's a 74 Oleg Cassini I actually have two red and white. As for the harness thought about just buying an already modified harness and put it in the car. The car will be orange with black top with 245/45-18 black rims interior is black Oleg Cassini dash. Leaving all the emblems off the car that away very few people will know what it is.
