Default caprice gas tank

anyone have pictures of a b-body plastic gas tank installed in a GM 60s A Body wondering how much you can see of it from the sides and rear of the car while it is on ground

bczee, starting my 67 project with caprice tank, did you have to grind some of the frame. i will have 2, maybe an inch on each side or more. wonder if your year has more room from rail to rail. how close are you to the rearend. mike

I had to cut/trim the lower part of the frame about 1/4" for about 9" on each side. The tank just fit in and I wanted some room for tank to move and just in case, not wear a hold in the tank.

For clearance between the tank and rear, the way I have mine mounted, the front of the tank is no more forward that the OEM one. The rear of the tan. is maybe 1" more rearward that the OEM tank.

the gas fill neck is on the side of a mino, right?, maybe the caprice wagon might work.

I think it has been asked before.. NO was the answer due to the filler neck being on the side and not the rear. (I guess if you want to fab something up..it might work out).

Correct. However, the BBodies up until the body change (box style) all have a metal tank. You could buy a new one, cut off the rear center filler neck and weld in a new one for side provisions. 91-96 are plastic and would not work for you unless you are a fantastic plastic welder.

1bigoldman- you need 40 inch min rail to rail and the tank is 30 inch deep so i would say 35 to 40 deep for rearend and filler neck clearance, are them nova years filler necks out the back or side, if side then no.maybe 90`s caprice wagon used the plastic tank 2. all the plastic tanks have a side port 4 the wagon, good luck, it might be hard to find 1

Widow is correct B-body Wagons had the side fill.

Just an FYI, on my elky, I had a rear fill caprice tank lying around. I removed the metal ring from the top of the caprice tank (it is overmolded on the plastic tank so you can sawzall the tank to remove). Then welded that ring to the top of the elky tank. Modified the caprice fuel sender float and now have a caprice setup in the el camino tank. Has worked great for the past 3 years with regular driving.
