Default Project: LS197

Details so far:
Engine: LS3
Trans: T56
Car: 2006 Mustang GT

The car's still running under it's Ford power for now, until I get the trans and the engine a little further along. The 4.6/5-speed that's currently in the car now, will go into, either, my buddy's '66 Stang or my '68.

I'm rebuilding the engine at the moment.

I've got a local car cruise this Sunday that I'm going to....that will be the last ride of the 3V. Progress pics will start rolling in at the end of the weekend...

I decided to shelf the '68 Mustang build and focus on this one for now.
Several of the local Stangers are up in arms, but it's all good.
The engine is a stock L92...I've got a budget to work with, so not many performance parts yet. The great part, though, is 417tq stock. I will be getting headers, most likely, and a tune as well.

This is the last shot of the 4.6L engine together:

Engine wiring harness separated and labeled:

Almost ready to pull:

Finally out of the car. It only took myself and a buddy about 4 hrs:

There's loads of room in the S197 Mustang engine bay. It should be no problem to fit the LS3 in there:

Here's a rough comparison to the stock 4.6 oil pan and the L92 truck pan:

The holes are close, but I'm thinking I'm going to have to make an adapter plate to fit the Ford motor mount pedestals:

That car looks absolutely awesome!!! The interior is not 100% to my liking, but the front view is drop dead gorgeous!

I had Patrick G spec me out a high torque cam. I'm going to get the thing running on the stock cam for now. I'd rather have a maggie in the future....but that's all down the line.
I added the blue lights for the Knight Rider Festival a few months ago...
Thanks for the kind words guys!

Let me know if you need some help on anything. I havent really been on any forums lately due to work but Im on here more than AAS. Not sure if your buddy told you but my car is getting ready to go to the body shop so it wont be around for 2-3 weeks im guessing. Gotta find a shop to take it to and all that fun stuff.

Guess we wont be winning any MOCA shows anytime soon either lol.

haha, I suppose not. We should enter the next one and place our cars next to each other.
FYI MOCA=Mustang Club of America

Right now, I'm researching a few things:
1) How to adapt the Ford engine mount pedestals or find a set of G8 pedestals and see how they line up with the Ford mounts in the car.
2) Does anyone have any LS-style headers I could borrow to test fitment? I'm thinking the easiest will be to buy GT500 headers and replace the flanges. The GT500 headers are the only ones I can find that fit the chassis and are larger than 1 5/8"....only problem is I can't find any used. I really don't want to buy brand new headers just to cut the flanges off and weld in LS-flanges.
After a few quick measurements the GM engine/trans is about the same length as the Ford one. I need to get headers and find a solution to that BS Ford remote-shifter and then I can take measurements for mounts.
Luckily the S197 chassis had a decent performer (GT500) so I might be able to use that trans mount.

I couldn't wait to do something this morning. (I can't do much but measure and research since money is tight for the next few weeks)
I was able to get 2 bolts on each Ford engine mount pedestal to line up with the L92 block, so I snugged them up on the motor and did my first test fit.

This is with the stock L92 truck oil pan. It fits great. Only issues I can see would be that it sits about 1.5" below the k-member. I'm pretty sure that my exhaust hangs lower than that in the back, BUT I might consider an F-Body pan once I get the trans and some headers to see how they all fit.

I went ahead and put the bellhousing on to see how everything fits as-is:

Measurements suggest that the stock F-Body shifter will be about 4 1/2-5" ahead of the stock Mustang shifter hole. Does anyone have measurements for how far back the GTO shifter sits?

What I see in this pic is plenty of room for a Maggie, haha.

Only issue I see so far with the engine is the vacuum port on the back of the intake might hit the A/C line on the Firewall.
I think it's too early to call on these issues, though.....I've still got lots of measurements to take.

I just measured the GTO shifter, its 3 1/2 inches back. Let me know if you need it, PM me. I just have it covering the hole anyway.
