hey guys need some advice,i bought nice braided line from street and performance to use on the pressure side of my power steering pump,but the line is leaking so i need a plan b so i can start this car this weekend..i have a ls1 with corvette power steering assembly.my power steering gear box is from a 3rd gen iroc.can i use compression fittings?will they hold the pressure?i could mate to different lines then.any cheap good solutions i can buy at a local parts store?

 

Take the hose down to your local hydraulic hose shop and let them put the fittings on the hose. Shouldn't cost much and they won't leak.

 

3/8 compression fittings will work, I have used stainless parker ones sucessfully, I think my 4th gen camaro line trick would still work on the vette acc drive FWIW

 

^^^this. I had a shop make up my entire hose for $37.

 

This was my backup plan, in case my original plan didn't work out. If you do happen to go into a Parker outlet, make sure to bring your end fittings or existing hoses with you. They normally do not stock the sort of ends typically used in automotive applications. I went to three different places in NW Indiana before getting pissed and making a new Corvette hose fit my old TA (see thread here: El-Cheapo PS Hose )

 

Matt what u do with 4th gen line??

 

I've been using a compression fitting to join the ls1 hardline to the stock chevelle hardline. As long as you get it tight enough it works great.

 

Aeroquip TFE lines work well. Designed for 3000 PSI.

Sounds like an assembly problem. Take a look here, right side of the page. The "tool" can be anything, it only needs to fray out the steel braids so the brass "olive" can fit between the steel and the teflon.

 

I didn't realize it at first but the S&P lines is Teflon steal braided line!I went and bought a new fitting today!hopefully I can fix it tonight!

 

Parker is a manufacturer of high pressure hose items (fittings, hose, crimpers, etc). Local hydraulic shops usually carry a good amount of their stuff. This is an example of a local shop that carries their product line (good guys, by the way - very helpful)
