Lost starter circuit ground on my 71 LS1 Chevelle Conversion
I have been posting for awhile about how my car wont' start.. Well I removed teh VATS system from the PCM thinknig that would work and the car still won't start. I turn my key and the fuel pump and Accerssories turn on.. WHen I turn the key nothing works at all.... I used my test light and stuck it in the green power wire going to the starter relay and grounded it and the starter turned over... So basically when I ground out the system I complete the circuit..
My question is where are the grounds for the starter circuit because now I am completely lost...
Also could I just hook up a push button start directly to the starter solenoid???

How is your battery hooked up? You should have the negative cable going directly to the block. the start solenoid grounds to the starter case, which in turn should go to the battery via the negative cable.
Hooking up a button to the start circuit won't do nothing if there isn't a return path to the battery.

The negative line is.hooked up to both the block and the body. I read somewhere thY the starter ground goes to the bcm which goes to the VATSsystem which tells the bcm to ground the system. I don't know im lost at this point.

Can you give more info? You have a 4 prong- relay right? 1- Constant hot 2 - Ground. 3 - hot from ign(turns relay on). 4 - hot to solenoid.
Which hot wire did you ground? Sounds like you may have a bad relay.

My Starter Relay is 4 prong, I switched it out with a fan relay and it still dint' work.
The wire that I grounded out to get the power when I turned the key to the starting position was the GREEN wire on the clutch safety switch. when I grounded that wire out the starter cranked over..
My Ignition wiring is an orange wire that goes to a fuse box in the car that is hooked to a brown wire that appears to go to the BCM..
I had my VATS system deleted in the PCM, could I now have some sort of ground issue because of it??
THanks so much for the help guys keep the info coming cause i'm desperate.

No I stabed the wire with my test light while the test light was grounded on the body which inturn put a ground on the wire.. Could I just wire it with a pushbutton start? or does the PCM and the BCM get involved still

Don't really know what my BCM is being used for.. When the guy did the conversion he didn't remove any wires in fear he would mess something up.. I have a toggle switch which works all my orignal Chevlle Accesories, lights, radio, wipers, blinkers.. The motor, fuel tank is all Camaro.. It is very confusing..

so the wire travelling to the bcm is basically a ground wire??? Could I just remove that wire from the BCM and ground it.
Alos why would I loose ground if the BCM grounds it????
WIll it hurt anything if I ground the wire without the BCM, do I need to disconnect it from the BCM or can I just tie in a ground anywhere on the systme?? I know alot of questions and I really thank you for your help in all of this...

It grounds through the BCM as part of the anti theft system. The BCM may not be receiving the property signals to turn off the anti theft. I would just cut that wire and bypass the BCM completely as tying in a ground there could cause backfeeding issues. And questions and experiences are how we all learned. And from that in one of your post earlier you said that you poked a wire with your test light, don't do that it can lead to some real electrically boogers down the road.
