I know this is sacrilegious, but...

The 180 headers sound good but they would cost more than the swap to fabricate if you can't diy. The steering shaft limits what you can do with headers, it hugs the block closely.
The turbo diff works better with a 3.375 final drive and you can do the 5th gear swap to get the RPM's down on the highway.
I don't think the 944 had an exotic exhaust note when it had a 4cylinder, the LS1 would improve on it.

Andy, I never heard of 180 degree headers before, so i googled them after reading this. Found a nice ls1 video on a vette, def sounds exotic to me.

That really sounds good.
Does anyone have any info on 180 degree headers?

They made that vette sound like a Honda.
If you make your own remember the LS has a different firing order than a first gen. You will have to route the tubes in a different order.

Since you said you wanted an exotic sound, 180's will definately accomplish that goal. Superchargers, titanium exhaust, etc will cost far more and still won't change the sound to the degree that the 180's will.
