Default Driveshaft problems!!!

For some reason I can't get the driveshaft yoke to slide up onto the output shaft. The driveshaft had some minor rust because it came from a junkyard but I think I took care of that with some wd40 and a small wire brush. If I could get it to slide another inch, id be fine, but I don't think that's gonna be possible without a hammer. Am I doing something wrong?

The yoke should slide in easily without issue. You either have a twisted yoke or there is debris in it causing the problems. Get another yoke and save yourself future stress.

If you have a local "you pull it" type yard, yokes for non performance applications are pretty cheap. If you're going racing I would buy new.

Depending on the transmission you are using, the yoke may be quite easy to source from a salvage yard because many transmissions used the same yoke or transmission across several models / years.

Possibly a truck / car problem. I've seen some awfully long yokes used on 4WD pickups, but cars use much shorter yokes.
The car yokes should easily bottom, but must not be driven bottomed. They should drive about 1" from bottomed.

I noticed the spines inside the yoke are a little different than the ones on the output shaft. There's a one of "valleys" is wider than all the rest, as if it should be used to line up with a specific spot on the output shaft. But from what I can tell, there is no such spot. Does that mean if gave the wrong yoke?

No, that's pretty common. I've run into it a few times, but it never once caused the problem that you're having.

Got it on. Got some rust remover gel and cleaned it up. A little trans fluid to lube it up and it slid right on. Thanx a bunch!
