LTX --> LSX Conversion Sticky
). My swap should be fairly easy with the LS as I got an entire engine with harness and PCM - came with everything from Throttle body to Flywheel... It should arrive this Wed the 19th and the fun will commence.
The rack input shaft is at approximately a 45* angle coming out of the rack vs just about straight up on an LT rack. So if you tried to use an LT rack on an LS conversion you would put the rack input shaft through the bottom of the oil pan. Also, the LS steering shaft uses a U-joint vs a rag joint.
They should be, maybe you have to specify year when you order? I also wonder if you can choose between 16.9:1 and 14.4:1 racks?
INDEED! I bought my TA a few months before the LSX came out... I've spent twice as much money to keep up with the LS, and now everything fell into place... Hell I'm just happy to not have to remove the water pump to change out a distributor!!!! OMG I've had one of the OPTI eaters since the car was purchased so 17yrs of that pain in the *** was enough alone to convince me to do it but the power you can make out of the LS platform is undeniable compared to the LT or Gen I small block. Tuning ability is just icing on the top... I don't feel bad about losing the old set up - the replacement came out of 02 WS6 so at least I kept it Pontiac ( I know it's all GM

So im doing an LQ4/t56 swap in a 1997 30th anniversary camaro with a 3.8/4L60. I was wondering if the tooth count on the reluctor wheel for the VSS in the trans were the same in the 97 4L60 as in the LS t56. The rest of the guages are pretty straight forward bc the 97 cluster is analog, was just curious about the Speedo. Thanks in advance for the info!
Yes thanks I do have a 17x, I will be using a dakota digital SGI-5 speedo conversion box to make it work. Simple enough! Thanks again for the input fellas. I have an LS k-member, LS steering gear, 2001 WS6 rear that I have installed 4.10s in, going to be buying the SGI-5 box here soon, wiring isn't a huge issue, I'm very electrically inclined (going carbed, only be using PCM for speedo functions, maybe fans, will just unpin everything else I don't need so I don't have to deal with an annoying SES light) Tach will be controlled by MSD 6010, will be using a carb hat and SLP lid. Anyone forsee any issues that maybe I haven't addressed with the swap? Hopeful that this swap will be as painless as anything like this can be lol. Going to be built 6.0 and T56, red 30th anniversary car. Debating on whether or not to leave the ground FX on it or not, The car is in perfect shape body wise, I dunno, maybe the ground FX will grow on me lol

Why are you going Carb'd??
The major obstacle that people have is wiring and the 97 car is perfectly setup to make it a direct EFI Swap, you are are going to CARB it??
I have a 84 Monte SS that was factory Carb'd and I fixed that problem..lol..

Going carbed bc of budget restrictions. Dont have the capital right now to do the neccessary EFI supporting (FAST 102/102 setup, injectors, pump, hptuners etc.) mods for internals i put in my motor. Not to say EFI is out of the question, it most def is a superior system for a street car, but not in the cards for this summer. I can always upgrade later with an elbow, TB, and drilling out the injector bungs in my intake, which very well may happen. I just want her on the road for this summer. Carbed this motor will still make great power and be a blast to drive.

You can find an ls1/ls6 intake with injectors, rails, and TB for cheaper than a carb setup. the factory pump would keep up with the needs of a 11:1 427 lsx and a base tune with an ls1 PCM. At least that could get you going AND you wouldn't have to repin your harness or try finding another harness to start all over again. Just a thought.
I appreciate your thoughts man. Im very aware of what it takes to build an efi setup, just not the direction im going with this build at this time. Ive been building cars my whole life and I wrench for a living, im no newb lol :-). I dont necessarily agree with the five steps backwards comment, that to me is a matter of opinion, and a never-ending back and forth that im not gonna get into on this thread lol. I appreciate everyones builds no matter if its a direction i would personally take my project. I know what it takes for us budget guys to get a car together and keep the lights on at home lol. Like i said man good looking out thanks for the input!
My breaking point for the LTX was when I was looking into ignition upgrades for my 383 with AFR 210's and a Victor Jr. I wasn't going to drop $2400 on a coil near plug setup to eliminate the Opti, and running a Vortec cam sync and a crank trigger would have been a real pain to deal with under the cowl.
Waiting for my son's baseball season to end so I can get some serious progress made.
Welcome to the dark side. But, I wouldn't look into this thread for constant updates more as an archive, lol. Why, if I may ask, take a running T/A and dump it's powerplant into a 93? Moreover, are you planning to ditch the 98 PCM?
Body on the t/a is wrecked up guess the guy thought it was a bumper car and it a vert but no I plan on using the body harness and guage cluster and dash and drivetrain out of the t/a but the only thing I'm seeing I need to modify is the fuel situation I like the cluster in the t/a and the body of the z over any of the other f bodies the t/a is cammed with longtube headers and aluminum driveshaft just need a tune and my Camaro is gutted and staying like that it gunna be a strip car so the base of tha ls has more options than lt so that y I'm goin to ls.
ok ill look into that i wanna just get everything over and im going to do upgrades as my wife races it.... i want her to grow with the car as i build it... she raced our pontiac g6/gt and is now hooked... so it will be a sport she can do .. it just had to be expensive...lol...
