Default LS3 standalone harness, oil pressure sensor

The LS3/E38 standalone harness I recieved from Current Performance doesn't come with oil pressure sensor connector. This is also called the oil pressure sending unit or oil pressure switch. It is located behind the intake on the valley cover.

I did some searching and I've found that most folks wire the gauges directly to the oil pressure sensor.

I sent mail to Jared and he said that the oil pressure is not needed.

Is this true? The ECU does not reference oil pressure sensor readings at all?
I was under the impression that the ECU uses sensor readings for diagnostics or troubleshooting codes.

That's correct. The computer does not read oil pressure, it went straight to the guages originally. Problem is the factory sending unit will not work with aftermarked guages is my understanding. That's why guys run an aftermarket sender and wire it straight to their guage. That factory plug won't fit anything else either, that's probably why your's didn't come with one.

My harness was done at Current Performance as well, I ran My Gauge's Sensor for the oil pressure, nothing to the computer for oil pressure. I just started my car last night. I had no issues at all. The Harness worked out perfect.

That is correct. You dont need the oil pressure sensor hooked up through the ECM for the harness to work, unless you are going to run an engine that was available with DOD or you want to run a gage cluster that came from the donor vehicle.

Jon - no DOD on my engine, it is an LS3 from a G8 GXP and I am planning to use Speedhut or AutoMeter gauges.

Thanks all for the confirmation, I'm going to go ahead with hooking everything up.

Displacement On Demand. Ls3's don't have it, but the automatic backed version, the L99 did.
