bench seat and a t56 I have read some threads that say you cant use a t56 with a bench seat I still in the planning stages of my swap on a 67 gto my issue is I just had a bench seat recovered for it. is there any way to make a t56 work with a bench seat or am I going to have to get a tko600
Im tryin to do some research for you...but dont have a lot of time to search. I think it comes down to the shifter handle...and depending on your setup, might require other mods.
Lou Santiago did a Nova on "Muscle Car". With an LS1/T56. I remember he modified the tunnel a bit, and also modified the seat frame to make a pocket. I think he was able to just work the fabric a bit to make it look factory.
Trying to find info about that is like pulling hairs. You have to buy the DVD to get any decent pictures of the car...that ive been able to find anyway.
But if I find it, Ill post it. Might help ya out.

McLeod makes a shifter relocation kit. as we as shifts that can move the location. I looked into this, but figure by the time I invested in the kit and parts, cost of labor, it was just too costly.
I found that a Viper T56 has a forward location as compared to the F-Body (or GTO). I move the shifter forward and does clear my Bench seat on my Chevelle.
What has to be converted is the Input shaft and the front case plate. (for the most part).

Keisler has a kit to move the shifter to the forward plate on the t56.A sponsor trans shop priced installing one for me for $200.I read up on it a little and it dose'nt sound too bad to install.I am going to do one but have'nt done it yet so I cant tell you how well it works.Mabye someone else on here has used one.I would like to hear about it too if they have.
There is also the T56 Magnum option with three shifter positions. If you use the front position that is about 19" from the back of the engine block you should be in good shape for a bench seat.

U will have better luck with a viper t56 it's about 4 inches closer to the front of the car then the f body t56.i have a viper t56 going in my camaro to keep my center counsol near stock location.if u need pics of both trans lmk i have a viper t56 and fbody t56 laying around.btw if u want a viper t56 i have one for sale pm me if interested.

Verdad Gallardo The stock Camaro T-56 shift location is at 29.5" from bell housing. The Viper version is about 4 inches less so about 25.5. The T56 magnum has 3 possible locations 18" 23" and 26.6". This gives you a lot of flexibility to where you use the shifter. The magnum does stock setup to use the 23" and 26.6" to use the 18" location you have to buy a different shifter option that is about $200 more. The T56 magnum is an aftermarket transmission rated for 700 ft lbs of torque.
The best thing to do is figure out where the back of your motor is going to be then measure where you want your shifter. With all the T56 transmissions you can buy an offset shifter that allows you to move the shifter up to 38mm or 56mm in any direction.
Note about using the front access panel location, if you are using a factory trans, ie.. Viper, Camaro, etc... to use the front location you have to disassemble the transmission and cut the shifter rods to make the kit work. With the T56 magnum it is already setup for it and you just need to add the right shifter on top of it without disassembling the trans.
