Just got the NEW original BB Chevelle pressure plate in. Doesn't have all the extra springs and other happy horse (bleep) in it. Going that route since I'm tired of pulling this trans out!! The original Muncie shifter doesn't bolt to the trans and it's a pain R&R'ing

Reason: add
I got bearings out the wazoo now. LOL Attaching a pic of the 2 pressure plates side by side. Looks like the Chevelle one needs the longer bearing, not the 02 Camaro. Chevelle one is shorter. It's the one on the right. Both are brand new.
This project is in real time, as are the pics. Pulling the flywheel off now and will update with progress. Took half a day off work to do this cause it's buggin the cr@p outa me!!
You need to compare the flywheels too.
The Sachs/BBC one is 0.4" thicker than the 98-02 f body LS1 flywheel.
See my first post for compatible part numbers.
Using the stock 02 flywheel which lines up perfectly with the Chevelle plate. Grade 8 bolts on pressure plate, no drilling, no sawing, no snot. Going together smoothly so far. Using long TOB with the way its measuring up. Trans in next.

Someone tried that earlier in the thread. IIRC, the clutch disk interfered with the center of the shallower flywheel.

Gary mine fits fine. Putting trans in now. Think someone that said it wouldn't fit put it in backwards. The clutch plate spring assembly goes towards the pressure plate.
Done. I did it. It works perfect. Numbers matching 1970 Chevelle SS 396, original 396 and trans in bags, changed to LS1, no holes drilled. THANK YOU ALL!!!

Would the 486 bellhousing work? Or do we have to use the 621?
I'm using some random truck bell. I don't think it matters as long as it clears your clutch, I think the big deal with the 621 is that it fits more cars.
Double check, but I think the truck 486 bell has the larger bearing retainer cutout (5.125 vs 4.68). It will bolt to the LS block, and will fit a 12" clutch. But if you use it with a car trans, the larger cutout will not properly locate the trans. You'll end up with pilot bearing, input shaft bearing failure.
I have seen spacers on ebay before to locate the trans correctly in the bell.
