Wow! Ok FIRST! I want to assure everyone that this thread is NOT BS and that the project is most certainly not BS. My apologizes as being the intro thread I didn't subscribe to it so I didn't realize it was getting posted in. For research, most of my time has been spent on either the DeLorean forums or the GT40 forums since they do a lot of rear engine work.
If you're wanting to follow the project more closely please check out this page:
ls1delorean.blogspot.com
That's where I do my updates as the project goes along.
If you want to know where the project is:

This is the frame of the car^

This is the body of the car^

This is my LS1^

This is my big pile of parts^ (though this is before the body/frame separation)

And this is my upgraded Renault UN1 transmission^
So this is where the project is. This weekend I intend on pulling the original motor off of the frame. I've spent the last week or so designing an adapter to adapt the Renault transmission to the LS1. As well just today I got off the phone with an engineer at McLeod Racing who will be making me the custom flywheel, clutch, and starter for the project.
This project is definitely still happening!

WOW... I woulda suggested using a 5.3 FWD out od Monte or Imp and designed the subframe to bolt to the back half of the Delorean frame. But it looks like you have everything handled. Good Luck.

So much for Tomfoolery - looks like we are still moving forward. Seems to be a very difficult swap that will require lots of ingenuity on your part. Good Luck with that.
It the motor longitudinally mounted (I hate that word) or Transversely mounted (feiro)?
If Transversely mounted the LS4 impala/monte carlo swap may be the path of least resistance.

Here's how it looks like its going to go down; the UN1 transimssion will be adapted to the LS1 with a half inch plate. (The GT40 replica guys do this all the time when mating a Ford 302 to a UN1). When they do this they use a 157 tooth ford flywheel and starter.
That ford starter is nice because it does not mount to the block but to the bellhousing, or in this case, the adapter plate. As long as I can get this starter onto the adapter plate, the guy I've been communicating with at McLeod will be able to make me a 157 tooth 12" flywheel with an LS1 crank flange bolt pattern. Then probably a 2000psi 9 11/16" clutch inside, and a custom pilot bearing carrier to make sure the input shaft reaches.
In my dealings with the GT40 guys, they've assured me that they've put 400hp easily through this transmission stock. I've personally upgraded some of the components; stronger coupler; stronger roll pins, etc, so I'm pretty confident that it will stand up to a stock LS1. We'll see though, I guess anything is possible.

If I do break the transmission, there are upgraded input and output shafts available that guarantee 600hp, as well as a straight cut 6 speed input and output shaft set that can be dropped directly in. (though those straight cuts would be loud, rockcrusher loud)

Spent the mornining removing the original DeLorean engine:

Still got to get that original automatic transmission out of there. That'll probably be the next project. The car has to become a manual in the process. I've already go the transmission, shifter, shift linkages, and pedal box, its just swapping them out. There's also some frame modification that has to take place.
Onward!

I don't know how I missed this, but I am so happy i found this thread. This has been my favorite "fantasy" swap for a very very long time. Good luck and can't wait to see videos of you driving it
