Parts on order now. Should have these Friday.

- V8R Oil Pan
- V8 Crossflow Radiator Kit
- Stage 2 V8 Crossflow Fan Kit

Also have a order in to PatG to spec a cam for my setup.

Going to try to get all of the engine parts ordered tomorrow or Friday so I can get the engine finished up.

Waiting on 1 concrete anchor to replace a bad one for the lift to be finished. Once that's in I can start dismantling the car.

While I have some down time I decided to clean up the valve covers. I don't plan on using the plastic engine covers and the stock valve covers were nasty and discolored. I coated them and the timing cover with some VHT Wrinkle paint. I think they turned out nice. Here's what they look like

I often get asked how much this swap is going to cost so I decided to keep an up to date spread sheet with every cost associated with the project. I just uploaded it to Google Docs so everyone else can follow along if they like.

Got my Cam spec sheet back from Pat G today and spoke with Geoff over at EPS. Cam is ordered!

Also ordered more engine parts today:

-Timing cover gasket (12633904)
-Rear crank seal (89060436)
-Valve cover gaskets (12612045)
-LS2 timing chain (12586482)
-LS7 lifter kit (12499225)
-CTS-V accessory drive kit (19155066)
-CTS-V/Corvette water pump (89018052)

First I went to the dealer to see what price they could give me. They wanted to bend me over. I was able to find much better prices online with no tax and free shipping. Saved a total of $350.24 on just these parts.

Ordered more stuff yesterday.

-ARP Flywheel bolts (330-2802)
-ARP Head bolts (134-3610)
-Melling oil pump (10296)
-assembly lube

Plan is to get the engine closer to complete so I don't have a million things laying around the garage.

Got the old 243 heads cleaned up. I'm having a hard time identifying the springs that are installed in them. They're dual springs of some sort but I'm not sure what kind. The retainers are magnetic so they don't appear to be Titanium. The pushrods that came out were Comp Cams 7955 but I don't know if that's any indication of what the springs likely are, probably not. The engine also had a Flowtech cam in it but I'm unsure of the specs on it.

I'm cleaning up the old gasket material and gunk off the block to get it ready for the new parts. Hopefully stuff will start showing up this week.

Could be patriot dual springs. They are certainly very popular

If you have a flowtech camshaft in there, you will also have a set of PAC duel valvesprings rated at .660 lift. I know, I do alot with FTI, and only run his cams and sell his cam kits to my customers. Very stout stuff.

Get me any info you have on that cam. I can try and cross it with the part numbers I have and see which cam it is. Most likely one of his Street Sweepers. Very hot seller in the GTO community.

Thanks!

The only info I have on it is what was engraved on the end of the cam.

I tried to get a hold of Flowtech but apparently they don't have any phone support

Parts came today! Too bad I wasn't home to sign for them. Seriously, who's going to be home at noon to sign for a package?!

On another note..I finally finished the lift today! Going to leave it up in the air for a couple days and monitor the distance across the top of the posts.

Try to find out how many miles are on the springs. Rule of thumb is to change duals every 15K miles ish. Also, retainers are likely hardened alloy steel...more durable than titanium. If high RPM drivetrain stability is a concern, upgrade pushrods to a Comp .105" wall design.

Finding Cam specs is important, but, don't be too concerned w/ giving up a little low end torque, if that's the case. You won't miss it in a light weight Miata & it can help w/ traction.

Since this engine was from a salvage car sold by a dismantler I doubt there's any way to trace back the age/mileage of the springs. I'm not overly concerned about it though since I'm replacing springs, retainers and pushrods with the new cam package anyway. I plan on selling off the old 243 heads with the springs still installed along with the pushrods. I suppose whoever buys it can have the springs checked out or replaced.

The new cam package from EPS should be here within the week so I can start putting the engine back together

Oh...

By the questions you were asking, it appeared that the 243's were gonna be used. Of course, if you are replacing the heads then...

I made it to Fedex to pick up the parts I missed yesterday. Plus another package from UPS!

Parts received from Super Chevy Performance:
- Timing cover gasket
- Rear crank seal
- Valve cover gasket
- LS2 timing chain
- LS7 lifter kit
- CTS-V accessory kit
- CTS-V water pump

Parts received from Summit:
- Melling HI volume oil pump
- ARP Head bolts

Having a hard time locating a M16 x 120mm bolt to install the new crank pulley. Really don't wanna spend $8 shipping on a $3 bolt. Any ideas?

Yea I stopped by one of them earlier today. They only went up to 100mm which is roughly the same as the stock bolt. Maybe I'll call a couple different locations to see if they carry different sizes.

I found a bolt at a place called 'bolt and screw' or something like that. Was a couple bucks I think for the bolt and hand full of washers to use as spacers. Found the place by asking some people that do a lot of farming, they always seem to know where to get random stuff like that.
