Aftermarket gagues for '68 LeMans
Morning guys,
I was wondering in anyone here had retrofitted aftermarket gagues to the original holes in their stock dashes? You can buy everything for a chevelle that basically bolts in, but for the LeMans...not so much. Interested in seeing pics or even ideas of what others have done.

Same idea with mine. 3 3/8 gauges. Original holes with an piece of aluminum over them. The problem I had was two of the holes were bigger than the others and the gauges wouldn't sit flat in them, so I needed the aluminum.

I don't thing the 68 uses 3 and 3/8th gauges. Also you guys wit the 67's and below can buy an aftermarket dash to accommodate any gauge you like. I will post pics of my dash shortly. I appreciate the ideas and will put a tape measure on the gauges to dispel anymore guess work on my part.

The gauges at the front face won't measure out like you would think since its cut at an angle.
The 3 3/8" gauges are actually 3.6" by the time you add in the trim ring etc. You would have to look into taking apart your dash to do some measuring to figure out how they would fit. Look on PG 7 of my build for info on how they mount.
As for the dash pad yes its just the factory pad. Can't really tell you more about it then that.
Got your PM about the speedo its made by Speedhut here is a link to it

www.speedhut.com you can customize the gauges any way you want. you can do it all on their website and lifetime warrenty. Thats how mine say GTO on the top.
I made a cardboard template and made a bracket out of thin steel and screwed it onto the plastic. They just dont make that stuff for the 68. one year unique model only parts they are not going to sell alot of. There was a place making 69 gto dashes with or with gauges. i have more pictures i can post of the gauges going in.
its a grant steering wheel 13" i prefer the smaller wheels. I did have to drill a hole in the back of the wheel to make the turn signal cam work correctly. i have had this problem with all of my grant steering wheels with no help from them fixing it. their adapter is needed and its basically a bolt on.

I drilled a hole in the location of the horn stem on the turn signal cam. Where it would be on the factory wheel. in the new wheel. then turned their adaptor 90 degrees and put it on. i had to reposition it once i was off one spline for the steering wheel to be straight.
I had a vinyl sticker made from a ebay store with a black back ground to put on the horn button. to cover up the Grant GT logo on the horn button. they sell other horn buttons but this was an easy way to customize it. say you wanted a Pontiac Arrow head or GTO or LeMans, LSmans
I tryed 2 turn signal cams and for GM they are all basically the same. Cams are at 2 and 4 oclock and the horn stem is at 10 oclock. the right one for grants adaptor and steering wheels needs the cams in the same location but the stem at the 1 oclock position.
The pictures of the turn signal cams on sites and catalogs are not the greatest for showing the relationship of the cam and the horn stem. if you could find it it would be easy. i thought it was cheaper to use my factory turn signal cam and drilling a hole. To make the horn and turn signal cams cancel correctly.
the steel piece is actually two parts when i was done. one part holds the fuel and speedo and the other holds the GTO quarter emblem which had to be spaced farther away from the plastic dash to fit. It serves as my check engine light.
I am using the S2000 start button where the ignition key was on the dash.

fronts was a conversion kit from Speedway Motors

i didnt use their rubber hoses or steel dust shields. i ran braided lines. and no shields.
rears the caliper and bracket and backing plate off the 2wd or 4wd s10 will fit the pontiac rear axle. pics of this on my build thread.
there are two different styles of backing plates the difference being where the ebrake cable is located one the cable pulls to the front and one the cable pulls towards the center of the rear axle. i recommend the front pull style because its easier to make the factory A body ebrake work with that style. (something i have on my to do list) junk yard or u pull it.
but you have to get 2wd rotors i got new rotors around 50 each new and i recommend getting new rear calipers i have had some issues with dragging from used calipers. new calipers come with caliper bracket. but i would still pick up used calipers and mounts at the u pull it for cores on the new calipers.
my 9 inch has chevy / BOP axle flanges on so it transfered over.
