Grand national lsx conversion?
Hey all newbie to this site but was told come here for the best input on the lsx swaps!
I bought a GN last sping and doing a complete frame off restore into a pro touring car and had planned on doing a nice stage 2 v6 with a nice size turbo. The body is at local shop being painted and the guy there does allot of lsx swaps in older cars and said i should really go this route with a 80-90mm single turbo or get wild and do twins! He said parts are plentyful and way cheaper that the buick stuff plus the ls motors are very strong. So what i would like to do if i can is to swap the ls motor in and run a single now i would like to keep the a/c so is that possible?
Is there anyone that has fabbed a exhaust for a G-body with a single that fits without removing the wheel well or a/c box? Do most guys still run coolers on the ls's with single's?
Basically i need some input on doing this swap and what i might be in for!!
Thanks for any help!

I to am also doing a swap, into a monte tho. I looked into the turbo stuff and decided to go N/A first then add a turbo in the future if i so desire. I am shooting for 400hp for this goal, which would be a jump over the turbo 6 even with a bunch of mods. Go over to the turbo mustang forum or to the forced induction section on here, there is a ton of info out there.
On a side note, The A/C with twins is going to get tricky! and the plastic inner fenders may pose a problem with exhaust routing. Not saying it cant be done but it will be a tight fit with ac

My goal with the V6 was 750-850HP and it is very easy to see well over 400hp on a stock lower end v6. If i go the ls route i will be using a 6.0 with a stroker kit and run a single turbo that should get the numbers i want but i guess it will come down to cost, fabwork, and time! I know the A/C and fender wells might be a challenge but i would like to keep them and not cut them to hell!

Take a look at the truck manifold swap threat on the this site. That might give you some ideas. Not sure if you could fit something like a single 88 that way or not?

Aren't real GNs pretty pricey and the regular Buicks hard to give away? Why not just sell the GN and throw an ls in a regular Buick. Personally I don't care but those Buick guy take that GN stuff pretty seriously. Turbo 4.8s and 5.3s seem to be popping up a lot, that might be a cheap approach as those things are everywhere.

https://ls1tech.com/forums/conversio...uild-swap.html
http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/thr...eed-gn.321944/

Now I know there are more, even posted on here, but since im on my phone too hard to look up. Keeping AC and plastic fenders shouldnt be a problem if youre creative. Welcome and goodluck

Vertz mentioned my build in my Sig already. I really think you would be able to fab a 3 1/2" DP in the stock GN DP location, a 3" DP would be no problem at all. I know my air box is gon, but if you would like any certain pics just let me know, I can take some for you. What are your HP goals?
Either way good luck.

Lamdenali- Love those gray colored TTypes. Had one myself.
I put a GN engine/trans into an '87 Mazda RX-7 and it weighed 2670lbs With a stock turbo and crappy launch (1.78 60') it ran mid 11's@114mph without locking up the stock D5 torque convertor.
Once I built a car with an LS motor.... there was no looking back.
