S10 build. Help me decide.
So i picked up this 98 rcsb s10 today for 500 bucks with a locked up 4.3. Automatic trans.
I did my silverado lq4 swap a couple months ago and im very impressed by it. So i have a 4.8 with a cracked head sitting in the shop. But i also have a old 2 piece seal 350 with a fresh build less than 500 miles on it sitting next to it. Should i go old style 350? Or 4.8 with some new heads? Or buy another 6.0 or 5.3?
My budget is whatever i want. but i am planning on making money on this project.
I can do nearly100% of the work myself. The one thing that concerns me is i would like to keep the 4l60e in the truck since it was just rebuilt according to the guy i bought the truck from. How do i get it to still shift correctly with a carbed 350?
The truck is 2x4 and will be uploading pics in a few mins.

also i would like to beef up the top end and cam of the 350 if i go with it since parts are so cheap for those oldschool motors. One more option is rebuild the 4.3 since im 99% sure its just a stacked main bearing and put my Garrett turbo on it.
What do yall think?

so you think buying a couple heads for the 4.8 would be better than buying a lower milage 5.3 and doing the same thing to it? keep in mind i drove the 4.8 for bout 10k miles with the head cracked. sludged it up a bit. the knock sensor valley is bout an inch thick in sludge. and its got 178k miles on it.
edit* dont get me wrong, i dont care either way. i would just like some good advice from anyone who might know more than i. my biggest problem in my life is time, and i dont want to waste it.

Hot rod magazine I think did an article on a 4.8 they thought was a 5.3 with a rusted cylinder wall, no intercooler, and like 200k miles pumped a turbo to it and it made 600hp on 100 pulls never blew up, throw water/meth injection in it and you're gold

Really if money isn't a problem i would 5.3 it, i feel like you will be disappointed with a old school 350. I have a 5.3 with a cam and I'm making somewhere around 300 to the tire's in a ext cab and it moves pretty good. so subtract some weight from your's with the same power and u have yourself a fun little toy.

Here is a link to the HOT Rod "Big Bang Theory" article.

I first read it in the magazine and it was quite impressive. 1205hp on stock bottom end. They did do alot of top end work. There was another article several months before where they took a junk yard 5.3 and a cheap ebay turbo, no intercooler and put an LS^ cam and springs in and made 594HP. Gave a list of part numbers too. Very good tech there and that is what made me do my swap.

Dude that article is amazing. I as a mechanic have personally been impressed by ls based engines just in stock applications. I cant tell you how many z71's ive seen come in the shop with over 500k miles on the original build on the motor and not missfire a lick.
I have on the otherhand seen ALOT of 4.8 and 5.3 heads crack. But the bottom end is always good. One in particular was an express van with a 4.8 with 20lbs of compression on #6. That job SUCKED.
Given i already have one i might go ahead and pick up another turbo and a set of heads and cam. And clean it up a bit and try to blow it up. I imagine the 4lcrappyE will crap out first though.
Running twin turbo is gonna get interresting in that tiny truck.

Yea i was considering that but that would cost me a grand. Wouldnt it? Im trying to prove to someone that i can make money on s10 conversions.
So the garrett turbo off of a 01 f250 that i picked up from a buddy for 75 bucks. What all will i need to run it as far as boost controller and wastegate?

You do your own work and you save plenty of money.. I do all my wiring & tuning so there's atleast $1000 saved on just my S10. Wiring is pretty easy. Profit could be made easy if you include a labor cost, just have to find a buyer. I built mine to sell cause I had a buyer, then they backed out so I kept it.
Subscribed to see the turbo setup, been thinking of the same myself.

I would not do the 350. I'd rather have a 4.8 than an old 350. The 4.8 will prolly still make more power and will have better drivability and gas mileage. I've had plenty of those old school motors and wont do another. You could pick up a pair of heads for $100. Or find another complete 4.8/5.3 motor for cheap.
If you are decent at wiring, do your own harness. It's not that difficult if you are so inclined. You would be able to use your 4l60e with the flywheel spacer. You couldn't do that with the old school 350. Look at LT1SWAP.com for harness info
The only way you will be able to make money off it, is to get a junkyard 4.3 for $400 and drop that in and sell it. A swap is going to nickel and dime you if you just want to sell it.

know that lincoln mark viii with the relay control module that is discontinued from ford and not available from any aftermarket company and runs like half the car? yea i made one out of like 15 relays and fuses. hehe. nah, ive got a 2 year degree in automotive electronics and tend to be pretty decent at it. i just need a diagram and a little instruction.
my skills at electrical work are kinda rusty since we dont do alot of it in the shop ive worked at for a few years but i can do it. impressed the hell outa my bossman when i made that giant wadd of relays work and only took me 30 mins to do it. god bless google pics.... hey i didnt look there...
