1995 3.4 v6 firebird to 5.3 or 6.0
Hi everyone. My car as it sits is a 3.4 auto stock. I've been researching for a while now and want to start collecting parts for the swap. I plan to start the swap in late summer or fall, so I have plenty of time to get everything. I don't want everyone to tell me it will be cheaper to buy a LS1 car because this was my first car and it means a lot to me. I haven't decided 5.3 vs 6.0 yet but I will probably go with the 6.0 as long as mileage won't be worse than 16 in town?? I will get a tubular k-member and use an extra 4l60e I have.(it came out of a 2wd ls style truck so I know it will fit) As for the motor right now I just want to get everything worked out with a stock motor so the only mods right now will be an ls1 intake and lt headers (pacesetters). I know I will need the whole harness, accessories and the steering rack out of a ls1 car. When I buy a k-member will the ls1 work with my 1995 body? anything else I'm missing right now or suggestions? Also how big of a budget will I need so I can start saving now? I'd rather have more than I need so don't be conservative.
Thanks

And about $2500 i just did the swap in my 95 bird with a 5.3 and its all of the lil **** that nickles and dimes you. Follow Merves threads as he has done several and knows his stuff better than most on here. The K members will fit make sure you get one make for the LS engines that makes it easier as well.

Ok thank you. I've been looking over Merv's threads and he really knows what hes doing. Did that $2500 just cover a stock drop in? I'm not planning on any goodies yet. I'm hoping to be able to do it for under $2000 but I don't really care if I spend more. I'm gonna try to get all of the parts that I know I will need first but I agree the little things are what kills your budget. For now I just wanna get it running right with the 5.3. I can get the full dropout turnkey from a tahoe with 115000 miles for $800 locally and thats with a 12 month warranty. Sound like a decent price? I haven't found much locally.

Since it has a warranty it aint bad i paid 300 for my complete 5.3 dropout with 20k but if your modding the motor they may not honor the warranty. Give or take 2500-3000 is what i have in my car. I started with a 95 bird with no motor or trans. I did a cammed 5.3 LT headers TSP 3" Y M6 Spec stage III and mccloud master cylinder tubular K SS Sway bars and full tubular adjustable suspension in the rear.

Thanks. I'm not worried about the warranty. Before I mod it I'll do a full rebuild, just want to get it working. I had two questions though. Why can't I use the truck accessories and belt routing? And also I have a 4l60e that was rebuilt within 15k out of a 94 suburban. Will I be able to make it work with the 5.3 with just the spacer and flywheel?
