Fuel cell straps needed paint... might as well go with red.

Wiring progress. Determining the optimal layout was the hardest part.

Caliper mount flanges squared and gussets added. Outsourced this bit to a local shop Mike Balf Race Cars.

New brake and clutch masters and new pedal mount. Old mount was worn out. The bores where the pedal pivots go were hogged out into ovals allowing the pedals to move in the mount.

Today I setup the pedals/hydraulics (balance bar, lines, etc.) and made my new switch panel. Very pleased with how the switch box/panel came out... exactly what I dreamed up in my head. Found the box from Jegs, made by K&R racing... only $30. Bought the switches separately and made the panel with ABS plastic I already had.

Switches from left to right are:
Start
Fuel Pump
Igntion(MSD)/Gauges
Fan (50 amp switch)
Cool Shirt
Aux (will power a power port on the dash for anything that uses a cigarette lighter adapter i.e. Traqmate)

Wiring... this stuff is tedious. I couldn't imagine doing it on a "normal" car with less access.

You could have made it easier on yourself by using color coded wires rather than all one color.

Think how it will be in 3 years time when a wiring problem arises you'll have to trace each wire individually to identify what it does.

West Marine fancy grade 12 gauge 100' spool (10 gauge for the fan circuit). Didn't want to mess with buying all kinds of different colors. Red for power and black for grounds... KISS.

Plus, I put write-on/print-on heat shrink wire labels on everything.

You can see them on the leads from the switch box here...

  • Label coming off each switch lead for fuse side and load side.
  • Label coming off each fuse panel wire so I know which to hook up to which.
  • Fuse panel cover will have labels for each circuit.
  • Label at the end of each load wire.

I dun planned ahead

As I was scrolling down looking at the fuse block, then the wire terminals, all I could think was West Marine.

Good on ya, thet's some high quality stuff there.

I used to work there and bought all the stuff to wire my car from there. The employee discount really helped.

Great thread Brian. Let me know when you come up to Summit. I probably have 1000 laps on that track...on two wheels.

Going to try and make it for the NASA event next month to shake-down the car. I was fortunate enough to set the TTA record there in late 2011 with a 1:17.8. The previous record was a 1:20.3.... was my first time at the track too. Fun little track... front straight speeds are pretty nuts.

Break-in filter only... not going to use a $15 K&N for first start-up and break-in dyno time. Have two cheap Frams and then will switch to the normal K&N racing filter.

They're AFR165s with nearly new springs and comp pro magnum roller rockers etc. If you send me an email I can put you in touch with my father who's selling all that stuff. Not sure if he's listed the heads yet.

Good call on the powder coat color, that white chassis looks great. Cool build
