The 7m is a capable powerplant but at 400+hp things like to break. Rod bearings and headgaskets are a constant problem and then there is no real good way to tune them and piggybacks are only a bandaid. It was a great engine for its time but its time is gone. Back in the day the serious guys always had a built block sitting on the engine stand because they knew they were on borrowed time. Why drop $4k - $5k on a built engine when you can drop an LSx engine in for less then that.
I am in the process of starting my swap. As soon as the the engine sells I have an L33 sitting on a stand ready to drop in. I am going to use the R154 and see how it goes. This will be this cars fifth different engine. It has been 7m, 1j, 2j, and 1uz. The 1uz was the biggest disappointment, man what a turd.
Looks good so far can't wait to see it up and running.

Same guy who helped me tune and set it up has a 93 Celica Alltrac producing 856whp on an all wheel drive dyno to this very day (also race fuel)The real secret to my set-up was the head work done by a former Cosworth machinist, using a aeromotive boost reference fuel pressure regulator with a pusher pump and the HKS atom boost controller, everything else was conventional HKS bolt on stuff. The late John Myers of Turbonetics was also instrumental in tuning the CT26 into a good street set-up while keeping reliability, it's the only thing that kept me from popping a bottom end and since it was a daily driver I stayed away from upgrading the turbo at the time.
Oh and for front accessories we used the CTS-V from GMPP that you buy as a kit. They are just under $800 for the whole front setup. However if you want to run A/C buy a Vette bracket and compressor. It will line up with the V accessories but it tucks closer to the block to give you room for the A/C lines.
I'm jealous of your easy drivers side manifold fix to get around the steering shaft, my 83 is getting (an attempted) custom SS headers-basically an inexpensive set of ebay headers chopped and re-fitted around the steering shaft. I've moved the engine behind the front sway bar, so the weight distribution should be nice-sits about 1-1.5" taller on stock 1983 springs.
Now I've just got to get off the posterior and get moving
It doesn't help that life and the fact that I have to do everything the hard way is always slowing me down (Excuses!)Good luck with your swap and keep us posted, it's good motivation.
BTW, tried the 2jzgte-what a boat anchor! It also couldn't stop breaking....parts and the bank.....off to a nice dependable V8.
