Default G-body swap mounts 1" setback required?

I've searched and haven't found anything conclusive. I will be swapping a 5.3in an 86 monte with a th350 in the stock location. Do I need the standard adapter plates or the 1" set back plates to place the back of the motor flush with the bell housing of the transmission?

You need the setback plates in order to keep the transmission in the stock location. The setback plates also gives you more options for the oil pan.

I seen your post on Maliburacing.

Nobody can suggest any mounts for you when you have missing variables.

Mounts will depend on what trans you will use, what front accessories you will use, A/C ?, which headers, which oil pan, etc etc.

From some build threads I have read those that used setbacks and 4l60e needed the drive shaft to be shortened.

I could confirm but I'm having a hell of a time trying to clean my fire wall and frame before I drop motor and trans in...

I have

5.3L
CTS-V Oil pan
CarshopINC 1in setbacks
Original frame mounts with new energy suspension mounts put in and original clamshell.
G-force 700r4/4l60e crossmember
4l60e trans
Modified truck brackets to use LS6 intake

I'm pretty sure the drive shaft wont fit, original combo was 305HO and 200r4 88 Monte Carlo SS.

What trans did you have originally?

I measured the distance in the monte from motor mounts to bell housing. It looks like I will be needing the 1" set back plates.

Did my LS1/t/56 swap years ago & trimmed the factory f-body mount steel bushings to fit inside the steel cage that was mounted to my sbc engine block. Redrilled frame to set it where I wanted. I think setting the engine to where you want it according to your accessories & other variables is more important than where the trans originally set. Of course, far back as possible is best for weight distribution.
Ps, I,d definitely consider an overdrive trans while you're at it.

What did you do to make the truck brackets work with the LS6 car intake? Im looking for an LQ4/LQ9, well have a couple in my eyes...just like the look of the car intakes better...plan on using either the LS6 intake with 243 heads or LS3 intake with L92 heads...Will be going in a Brougham LS btw. Im just reading and searching for everything I need before I purchase engine since I cant have the car down longer than a week or 2.

^^Also you say there are variables? with the truck accessories and 1" setbacks...do you run into any clearance problems with the A/C beside part of the bracket that needs to be cut? and also headers, which ones would be best to use?

I used the transdapt 4595 1in setback plates... With a fabricated 2004r trans crossmember, 99 ls1 engine, relocated alt with Speedway's kit, notched heater box, CTS-V oil pan, 2004 4l65e trans,.... the factory exhaust still hits the floorboard on the pass side, i'm using a 8.5 rearend diff so i assume driveshaft mods are necessary.... Oil pan clearance is great though! no a/c though......

I suggest using the 1inch setback mounts so power steering pulley will clear steering box. This will also put motor in exact place as the the original. If you got same trans there will be no driveshaft shortning required. If you are using different trans you will have to change diveshaft according to trans. I using hedman headers mid length g body swap headers for under 300. Its a crap shoot using swap headers without the same company's mounts.

So what you did was take the SBC "clamshell" and bolted that to the frame?

Then you used the Fbody mounts to the block and put spacers between them

then fbody mount slides onto the SBC clamshell that's bolted to the frames crossmember?

You have A/C and everything clears? No notch?

Hit me on ECR fool, this rell

I just took sawzall and little spray lubricant and chopped off the idler pulley. Then I bought a spacer and longer bolt to move the pulley directly below the alternator.

Truck brackets I would use the 1in setbacks. The powersteering pulley will clear the powersteering pump. Or if you use the regular non setback plates then press off the powersteering pulley and press on a smaller pulley. Like one from an S10 I believe.

Far as A/C it's not going to fit unless you notch the frame. The factory a/c brackets wont even go on with the adapter plates and mounts. At least not with the 1in setback plates it wont. You would have to cut a notch in the a/c bracket so it goes around the mounts. Then notch the frame.

I'm probably not going to do A/C right now but I plan to maybe notch the frame and use brackets that use a Sanden compressor and pushes it forward a bit so everything is ran off of one belt.
