Default 95 nissan 240sx (s14) with ls1

hey there, new poster on the boards here but long time lurker.

recently picked up an s14 with a ls1 swapped in it. The guy who swapped it originally wasn't to interested with efi and put an edelbrock manifold holley carb and the msd ls1 ignition standalone to run the car.

So as it sits i just started the process of a mild build on the engine and will be swapping the car over to fuel injection aswell.

I picked up a 2006 silverado (5.3L) ecu, wiring harness, drive by wire pedal assembly, throttlebody (90mm) and injectors that were in the truck (im told these are 80 lb injectors to support e85 since the truck had the flex fuel option).

I picked up some other goodies aswell to put in the car as i have it apart

a TSP MS4 cam with pushrods and .675 dual valve springs
Truinion upgrade for the rocker arms to eliminate those stupid needle bearings
Ls7 lifters
Ls2 timing chain and gears
Ported Ls6 oil pump
Full engine gasket rebuild kit
Fast Lsxr billet fuel rails
And a corvette fuel filter/regulator to make running the fuel system easier
(currently have a 1/2 stainless feed line out of the back up the car up the engine bay, i plan to run a line to a Y to the front of the fuel rails, then 2 lines to a Y off the back and back to the fuel filter/regulator)

I still need to pick up an external fuel pump of some kind i havent decided which though looking to keep it fairly cheap but have a decent flow rate. was leaning to an aeromotive a750 but $400 seems a little steep when i can get a nitrous express 500 external for $180 (im not to familar with theyre product though so i haven't pulled the trigger)

heres a few pics of the car and as the project sits currently

(sold the wheels and have new ones on the way, Hood will also be getting replaced)

how it was before i tore into it

tear down in progress

as it sits currently i have the rocker arms and push rods out, i will be pulling the front assembly off this afternoon and removing the heads and getting them down to my machinist for a post and polish and 3 angle valve job.

then will be pulling the cam and timing gears and getting all that back in and then starting the wiring mess XD.

got the motor out of the car last night

good thing i pulled it and checked everything out

previous ownder did not lock tight the cam timing bolts and they had almost backed all the way out. Also looks like he over rev'd the **** out of it and destroyed 2 of the lifters and grooved the front 2 lobes of the cam very bad. goign to pop the pan off today and look at the bottom end and see how that looks.

You will be happier with an in tank pump instead of the external one. You can pick up a Walbro 255 for around $100. It will be much quieter and run cooler. I ran my 530hp L92 in my S14 off of one and never had any issues.

its already set up with an external holley pump, it just wont handle the psi for efi so i was just going to swap it out rather than change the whole set up of the lines and everything. i hear you on the wahlbro though, i made 550 in my TT'd 350z on a wahlbro. i ended up switching to a customer hanger twin wahlbro set up on that car because the single just wasn't enough XD

Block is all the way out of the car and torn down, i popped a few of the rod caps and one of the girdle's off to check the bearings. they were in great shape so i put them back in and torqued everything down. motor looks fairly low miles. probably in the 50k ish range id guess. now i need to sort all the wiring mess, not looking forward to that XD

finished my purchasing of stuff today i think, picked up some ev6 to ev1 injector adapters, a set of 55# fast injectors ( planning ahead since i would like to put a blower on this in the future) and an ls6 manifold for a little better flow for everything for now.

Awesome car. I can't believe anyone puts carbs on these motors! What a shame. I'm glad you're putting FI back on it.

worked some more on it today, got the cam in and sproket and gear and oil pump, got the timing set and got the pan back on. Also got the lifters and the buckets in. just waiting on getting the heads back now and then i can button up the engine.

also worked on replacing the truinion bearings in the rocker arms a tad before getting hungry. (a burger and seeing total recall called to me XD)

Why someone would want a carb is beyond me. When I think carb, I think rebuilds, flooding and problems lol.

So what are you doing for the speedometer? Are you just keeping the stock 120mph one?

the previous owner before me had bought some comp autometer 2 gauges and hardwired all of them. going to leave these alone for the most part. except im going to splice the line coming off the speed sensor on the transmission to the ecu and the other to the speedo gauge.
