'88 Supra Turbo LR4 swap BW S472
I'm new to this forum and this is kind of an intro/build thread for me and this is what I have going on. So, after being sick and tired of messing around with the I6 motors I decided to get a GM 4.8L V8. It's a LR4 out of a 2003 truck. Quite a few people are pulling big numbers on these motors and running the 1/4 mile in the 9's. We'll see how this goes.
Picking it up. Getting it in here wasn't easy at all lol
placing it in for fitment. I just shimmed the motor where I wanted it and started making mounts. I got a mock up trans from summit it was so much easier when using an real one and not to mention cheaper.
Trans it weighs about 10lbs
mounts
me welding away
Started to mess around with the manifolds and found out the head was cracked. Good thing I got the motor locally and there was a warranty on it! They were originally just going to replace the head till I pulled it off and found sludge in it. It pitted the cylinder walls and at that point I just got a new motor from them.
New motor lets try this again
It fits pretty well
Steering column clears with no problem
I think the turbo is going to end up sitting here I'm probably getting a BW S472 of S475
most likely putting the radiator fan in the front to gain some extra room in the bay too.

Looking good so far! I assume your going auto, and if your trying to put the power down thats obviously a good choice. Im running the same motor in my project car, and I'm already trapping 132mph, on a very tiny MPT70. These 4.8's love the boost!

What trans are you running I['m thinking 4L60E at the moment. It fits in the car well. I'm thinking a 4L80E is going to be too big :/

Did some more exhaust work
The welds on a collector I'm making for the turbo. Not too bad for only tig welding for a week lol

Started messing with the wiring and pulling out the old sound deadening material to make way for some dynomat. Might have to modify the trans tunnel when I get the 4L80E too, not sure yet.

The mock up 4l60e fit perfectly but I'm defiantly going to have to modify it to get the 4l80e in.

With a 28" tire I should actually cruise lower rpms than with the 700R4....

Don't run the 60 unless your keeping power low. I was using a 700R4, built, but it didn't last too long. I'm just upgrading to a TH400, and switching back to my 3.23's from my current 3.70's.

Cool, there is a guy on the truck side that put an older 4L80 in a 4.8L truck, and with just some minor upgrades runs mid 10's all day long, and it's a daily driven 2011 work truck....
Speaks Volumes about the greatness of that tranny.

Yea I'm trying to figure out what I need to do to the trans to run 10's. There just seems like there are so many options to go with. I'm thinking I might be able to do 10's with 650-700whp with the right tires. It's a 3600lb car.
