Everyone knew the 1 1/2" diameter shorty header would kill the power. The difference you gained is well worth the time it took to fab your own. Great work and results!!!

My guess is the added power has more to do with getting rid of the 1-1/2" primaries. I'm not knocking the long tubes (excellent job), just saying that small pipe was probably the biggest issue (basic F-body primaries are 1-3/4").

Yea definitely, the 1.5" primaries were actually smaller than the exhaust ports on the heads. The collectors were also pretty bad as well as the tight radius bends coming right off the flange.

The weather this weekend was too nasty to drive the car around so I finally made some time to get the electronic cutouts installed.

Once I decided where I wanted them to go (not much of a choice) I made these little pieces. Since I don't have a tubing notcher or hole saw, these little angles literally took hours to get right. What a pain in the butt.

Here's both of them tacked into place.

Once I got the flanges welded on I installed the E-cutouts.

Here's a closeup of the E-cutouts opened up.

I ran all the wiring to the storage in the center console and picked up 12V from the power window harness.

I'll try to get a sound clip tomorrow if it's not raining.

As promised, here's some video of the cutouts open vs closed. The volume with the cutouts fully open and with the car under a load is brain splitting.......but in a good way.

Excellent job. That was an upgrade worth the effort.

Pretty cool project. While I won't be spending the time to build my own ls g-body headers, this thread was inspirational.

For one thing ,I picked up a used portaband last year & haven't fully utilized it yet. The only tables I saw for it were ridiculously priced. Never heard of swag, may get one of their tops or make my own version.

You could appreciate this picture. I recently made a custom quad tailpipe setup to tuck up out of site except for the tips in a tight space. All my cuts were marked by hand. The trouble spent, I could have included fabbing a portaband table with mitre gauge. Before next project though.

It wasn't anyone in our area. A guy over on the Miata forum was generous enough to ship them to me. No way I was coughing up the dough for that kit.

After almost a year on the car, the headers have been leak free and still look great!

Awesome work and great results! That's the best sounding miata I've ever heard.

How has that rear diff been holding up with the pipes that close? In order to stop mine from whining when hot I had to put some heat wrap on the pipes closest to the diff.

Such a clean install, looks great man. Nice work.
Those mufflers really keep it at a quite tone, its amazing how good it sounds with them open and closed. Must be a beast when you're on it. You need to get some videos of it in action with them open.
Awesome job man.

Thanks guys!

Yea, the car does sound sick with the cutouts open...loud, but good.

Here's a video from earlier this summer when I took it to the track. Camera man is a little shaky but the audio is pretty good.

So far the diff hasn't had any problems at all. No whining that I've noticed...but there's quite a bit more cabin noise than you're used to with all poly mounts and not much sound insulation.
