Default ls options

I came across a running 5.7 out of a 2001 camaro with 120,000 miles and a running 5.3 of a 2004 escalade with 140,000.
My plan is to convert my truck to ls power plant and save up for a turbo build. Which engine would be best? Both are same price I know the truck brackets would fit better but f body pan will fit most swaps. Both also come with harness and ecm. Thanks

I plan on running a ls style intake also. Also plan on modifying harness myself n maybe do vats mod if i get the f body engine

f body. it will already have the intake you want and you can sell the accessories for quite a bit and use that money to swap to truck ones which are way cheaper. plus aluminum block and higher compression are two positives.

Balancer is not the same.

Get the LS1. The only reason to go 5.3 is huge boost or lower cost.

go with the LS1, more displacement for the same cost. But I guess more depends on how much boost you plan on running and if you plan on rebuilding the motor.

I would go with the 5.3 for a turbo build.

I would go with the Vortec if you are going to run any appreciable amount of boost (iron block is stronger). Just my 2 cents!

Ok guys appreciate the help will think long night hard about it and see what ends up now back of truck.

If i was to rebuild n put pistons the iron block is still best choice.

Btw this going in a c-10 weight with bbc n cage is 3750 with me in it

ok i ended up going with the 5.3 out of a 2003 avalanche. im going to build modify my own harness to work with the DBW throttle body and my TH400 trans. so far i have a few questions.

1. i have a unidentified connector that is in the breakout near crank sensor. it is 2 pin connector brown and black/white. my engine has no accessories so im having a difficult time laying harness out and guessing what should be here.

2. using a TH400 do i need to leave speed sensor connector going to trans and use the dakota digital adapter? will it cause driveability issues with it disabled?

3. do i need to tie the park neutral switch from my shifter to the harness?

4. is routing the crank sensor wire under crank pulley and all the way around the engine the best way? is there another component that will interfere with the signal?

5. using DBW, the TAC module has wires for cruise control, will removing those wires from connector/module cause issues with TAC operation?

thanks for all the input. i will start a build thread tomorrow with some pics of my mess and my truck.

ok i messed up somewhere! i thought i cut the oil level sensor out already but apparently i cut the wrong connector. i cut a wire out of the breakout to MAF. i could of swore that was the wire i was ohming before my meter broke.

Turns out there was a connector near the low side switch. also found this link for DBW

Good news and bad news,

Bad is was unable get the tac module and pedal from the vehicle the engine came from.
Called a few salvage yards only one had both and they wanted 200 for both. Seemed high to me so I called around and found red and blue pcm and harness for 200. Was torn on what to do so I came home to research some more. Didn't want to spend 200 on a tac module that wouldn't work.

Good news is i found on my 2003 pcm was one of the few that can be wired for tps and iac. So back to work on harness will post pics later not allot to see. Here is the link, mods delete if i any rules.

My 2 cents are simple, the old cliche is true; theres no replacement for displacement ! So unless you were thrilled about the aluminum Ls1 you passed on an Lq9 6.0 ! Escalades ONLY have Lq9's good luck with your build.
