Default Shortest Oil pan options.

I am in the process of dropping a 5.3 in my 47 Chevy truck and I'm ready to order a shorter oil pan. I have done the research and I think the Holley pan meets my requirements best, those being:

1. Around a 5-6" height.
2. I do not want to use a filter relocation.
3. Would like to use a kit rather than piece everything together.

Does anyone have any suggestions that would be better than the holley.

LS3 Vette Pan?

The overall depth should fit your bill and all the parts are cheaper.

That pan would work for me well, however when I called and got prices this is what I found.

Oil pan: 12628771 -- 436
Pickup tube: 12558251 -- 52
Windage tray: 12558253 --28
Dip stick: 12551581 -- 18
Dip stick tube: 12551577 --21
Pickup tube o-ring: 12557752 --
Gasket: 12612350 --40

Total=594 + tax. Is there someone that offers it cheaper?

x2 on the corvette pan. You may luck out on Ebay, actually. Not a lot of people are using the vette pan in conversions, for one reason or another, and I think the pan has correspondingly little demand.

Does your truck have the factory frame in front, or is it from a later-model something or other? My father-in-law put a Pinto front end in his 41 Suburban, I think.

But I, for one, can verify the LS1/LS6 batwing pan works pretty damned well in my application. Direct drop in on 2nd Gen F-Body, with no frame or pan mods, except to tap a new oil drain (yellow arrow). Very good ground clearance too:

I think you guys are talking about two different pans. The batwing pan is a C5 pan if I am correct.

I think a stock F Body pan is about 5" deep. They are rear sump. I am using one in my 75 Mercedes sedan. I paid $225 on ebay with a tray and pickup tube.

True that. It is a C5 pan. Sorry I wasn't more clear. Still, another option, depending on the frame in the '47 truck.

No worries, I appreciate any feedback. I think I'm going to stay away from the c5 pan for the simple reason of my exhaust is already going to be tricky, and I don't want to ask for another reason for it to not fit.

I really think the c6 style pan is best for me. For the life of me I can not put all the parts together cheaper than 450 that route though. And the Holley pan is 400 + 30 for dipstick and tube.

I'll second the batwing pan, very short. You can also find them for around $100 complete.

Try ebay & craigslist. Lots of takeoff since the vette guys were scared of oil starvation with prolonged 1g turns.
I bought one for $100, pan, pickup tube on ebay. A friend here just bought one locally for $125. Saw a complete takeoff on ebay asking $140 a few weeks back, didn't sell.
Just looked on ebay, 3 there now asking $99, 169, 179, no bids. Be sure to get the pickup tube with it, or discounted without it. I think the pickup is about $50 from the dealer.

Btw, the headers in my picture are basic Edelbrock musclecar LS1 headers. They aren't made anymore, but if you look for other makers of GM muscle car headers, you'll find plenty of high-quality options.

lmao WOW! Sounds like you need to make a friend at the dealership.. I paid under 300 for all those same parts.

FYI the gasket comes on the pan.

Then I guess prices have gone up. I ended up ordering everything through
Improved racing got everything for around 430. I've looked at every online gm distributor I could find and not one was cheaper..
