Up! In for some more, any updates?

 

I'll have updates this weekend, I should get the car back Saturday

 

I was doing alright on my r200 open diff, untill I put the kaaz lsd in, broke the pinion the first time, then broke an axle when I put the nitrous on, running with a q45 diff, havent had any problems but dry pavement burnouts only spins one wheel, so I have another q45 diff thats welded for the trips to mexico

 

early q or late q?

and if early, how did you weld it?

 

You cannot follow FSM spec on R200 LSD installation with respect to backlash, breakaway torque, and runout unless every bearing is brand new. Will eat pinions and/or crown wheels every time.

 

whichever one that had the 3.69 ratio I think 97+, separated the vlsd case, knock the pins out, slid the stub axles back in to somewhat keep everything lined up, then used bolts and plates to weld it together had to clearance the case a bit to get it to fit together, I thought about just finding a welder tip that would fit in the small holes in the vlsd and weld what I can but then I stopped being lazy and just took it apart,

 

The kaaz came with new carrier bearings, and I bought the ridicously expensive pinion bearings as well, order some extra shims, and measured everything, still may had been installation error but someone said that the q45 axles were bigger and have more splines so I went with that

 

the early q diff is stronger and has bigger axles and wheel bearings/hubs. the 3.54

the late one is the 3.69 and not as strong.

i started messting with welding a 3.69 for a friend trying to figure out the best way to do it, but i moved to florida and we never finished. i was starting to do pretty much what you just said.

 

Cool build!!! Your getting closer everyday!! Attention to detail is flawless. I wish I had both the patience and shop space you do, would love to do a ground up build, just the time involved would really test my patience, none the less, nice car, can't wait to see it done!

More good rear end info! Im curious is there an aftermarket lsd that will go into the q45? And thanks a lot Garrett its nice to be recognized by such a popular company in the car industry.

 

All right Update time!

I got bored while the car was away so I decided to start painting my coil packs


I got the valve covers and brakes all disassembled and cleaned to be sent off for powder coating, I decided to let my friend take a shot at it since he has been doing it for about a year or two now on the side. The valve covers will be a texture black and the calipers will be transparent red. He has the base coat for the transparent on the front calipers.




Then I finally went to the shop to go pic up my car!


This is one of the beefiest strut braces I've ever seen


I had a nice bracket made for the e-brake


An aluminum skid plate to protect the oil pan


I also had him modify the body to drop the seats some more, big thanks to BoostinIx for the pics of his


He modified the wheel wells to allow more turning angle

And once I got the car home I started to test fit some things in the engine bay and try and route the harness to see where things will go. And there are still things in the engine bay that havent been refinished so dont freak out haha





I also love how well the chase bays harness tucks away, it should look very nice once the whole thing is together




Now the driver side engine bay harness tucked away very neatly. Even the wire thats running down through the big circle hole will be deleted.


But the passenger side is looking like a nightmare! I'm going to have to see how much I can trim off of it.

 

90% of the stock underhood harness can be deleted. I removed my factory fuse/relay box completely and de-pinned the harness at the junction inside the car. Then I made a new underhood harness and ran it down the passenger side. All I needed was the headlights, horn, turns, and parking lights. Everything else was in my engine harness. It takes some time reading the service manual to figure out which circuit is which but it really cleans up the engine bay.

 

This is like a drug addiction, I check your thread every day lol. Cars coming along great!

 

that whole fat harness on the passenger side can be cut right out.

its for auto trans, cruise control and wiper motor. all you need is wiper.

 

Awesome! Good to know, I wonder if I can move the wiper motor stuff from the big box over to the little one.

 

Haha thanks man! Yeah it's definitely an addiction for sure, all though it is coming along steadily I'm trying to finish it before spring.

 

Agreed!! It's like the worst TV season finale ever where you're left hanging wondering all the time what's next!! I have it saved to my home screen on my iPhone 😜

 

Haha yeah I know it's moving a little slow but I try. Imminent the process of trimming down the engine bay and chassis harness. Then I have to see where everything plugs in and how I'm going to route it. Once that's done I'll pull it back apart to have the chassis painted and get the rest of the motor and trans together. Then maybe I'll be able to finally start it up lol.
