location of air flow sensor
I am building the intake system for a custom build and am wondering if there is a minimum distance that the air flow sensor should be from the throttle body. I think I had heard somewhere that it should be 10 inches but don't know if that is absolutely necessary or not. If anyone has any information about this I would be glad to hear about it.

The only thing I have see is reading the instructions for installing the GM LS3 "kit" in your hot rod or what ever. They recomend installing the card style maf in a minimum of a 6" piece of straight pipe. If you don't have the card style maf then I don't know if that would even apply.
Another thing I have ran across is putting some honeycomb in the tubing in front of the maf if you are having problems. There is a company that sells the honeycomb in different diameters just for that purpose.

I have seen MAF directly in front of the TB... S&P markets them that way. But 1989GTA is on the right path. The MAF needs to be on the tail end of a straight section of the intake to get the best reading. If put to close to a elbow.. the elbow would cause the air to be more turbulence and inaccurate reading are the results.
But we all do what we can and not always follow best practices and recommendations.

This info is very helpful , as Im trying make a air intake tube that will work for my swap. I would like to use factory oem parts if I can . I need to use a 5 pin mass air flow for the 07 nnbs truck . I need to know if this will work with a air intake tube from a 05 or 06 Trailblazer or Envoy .

Thanks for the information. This is the flow sensor I am using so it already has the honeycomb on it.

Since this will be a temporary installation just to see if it runs I will put the sensor close in front of the throttle body and keep in mind the straight pipe section information when I do the final design.
