E38 question

E38 question
So I bought a 08 escalad 6.2, I'm apparently not gonna get the computer from seller, do I need a specific vehicle E38? I see the same part number at salvage yards for different vehicles, would like to make it easiest, just plan to disable emission and vats so it will run stock for now.

The E38's changed service number often. This is the info I have.
2007-12597121
2008-12612384
2009-12625455
2010-12633238
You should be able to use any 07-08 ecm as long as its flashed with correct VIN. If you get an ECM from another application, like a front wheel drive, it will have to be flashed with GM Service Programming to correctly program it. Programs like HP Tuners, EFI LIve, will not program the ECM completely to work correctly.

I just want to get it running stock for now, it is going in front of a T56. If I decide to delete VVT later would same computer work? The more I research I wish I had not bought this one...and went with the older style setup that uses 24x...If I don't have the vin would a computer from an LY6 truck motor work? I think I might know where one is....Also if I am leaning towards removing VVT, would mI be money ahead to buy the GMPP LS3 computer for my harness?

Anyone used a GMPP swap kit ecm on a factory harness? The LS3 computer is around $250, I have the harness with the 2 plugs like it. Are the pinouts the same on all the E38 style computers? If the GMPP would work on a factory harness and no tuning required to make it run on a stock motor sounds like a no brainer. I realize I would have to ditch the VVT for this route....

I'm looking at having to buy a computer, then possibly having to configure it to my motor, then pay to have it tuned to just run...I do understand I would have to disable vvt that route, just trying to come up with the most cost effective solution right now.

I found out the computer is $240ish for the 480hp LS3 from gmpp, got the pinout emailed to this me evening, so with the 3 computer plugs scavenged at a salvage yard you could make your own harness using them and your harness, that computer runs the hot cam

It's not a clear answer, this thread and the links address it:
