I've been pondering a LS1 swap into a Mercedes 450 or 380SL (70's to mid 80's).
I like the looks (Euro headlights, convertible)
Its got a V8
Fairly cheap (7K)
Four wheel discs
Independant rear suspension
Would look great with aftermarket rims and low profile tires
Anyone?

The only drawback would be the weight factor. These things are in the 4000lb range, less with the hard top off so weight reduction would be a priority. The styling and stance are classic imo. It's already got a V8 so the hookup should be straight forward.
Just thinking out loud

W107 chassis SL's look good if they have euro bumpers.
Im not a big fan of the euro headlights though, just flat pieces of glass.
I picked my SL up for way under 7K, grey market euro 280sl.
Dumping the factory steering box/links/idler for a rack and peanut.
Running the front sump Holden/GTO oil pan with a modified front subframe crossmember.
My friend's dad owns a mercedes wrecking yard so I confiscated a rolling chassis to use as the guinea pig, to chop and hack.
This will make the transplant quicker when my bosses new shop opens early next year.
here is pics of the front bumper, interior, and chassis.

I have a 250C in my back yard that will recieve my sl powertrain
Waiting for the shop my boss is building to be finished, then the SL will be yanked apart.
Right now I am cutting/reinforcing to front subframe to clear.
