LQ Fox Build
Wound up taking off the oil pump sprocket in preparation for the SLP sprocket that will work with the double roller, came off easy with a 3 jaw puller.
Mocked up the oil pan with pickup tube, everything seems to fit snug.
I'm a bit confused as to when i'm lining up the "dots" on the timing gear, and crank gear. Where does the engine need to be before I match them up, or does it not matter? I guess i'm trying to ask if I need to make sure the engine is at TDC and on which piston, before I put the timing chain, and crank sprocket on?
Or do I just put them on as it sits and just match them up as best I can? From my understand timing gear should be at 6 o'clock, and crank gear at 12o'clock.
Went to the GM dealership to pick up a new cam retainer plate since the gasket on mine was flat, found out the new ones use a sunken bolt, and they only had 1 bolt in stock, had to order 3 more that will arrive Monday. Project is on hold until I get the bolts ;(
I began installing my SLP Double Roller Chain, and SLP Oil Pump. Apparantly if you run the SLP pump with the SLP Chain, the shims included with the kit are not needed because the oil pump is built to clear the chain. I quickly found out this was not so, without the spacers the chain was barely rubbing the oil pump, you can see in a picture I posted below. I tried adding the spacers on and found that resolved that issue, but now the timing cover is waaaaay off from fitting. I wound up taking the Oil pump to my machine shop and will be having 0.030" taken off where the chain was rubbing, this seemed like the easiest way to resolve the problem instead of spending hours modding my timing chain.
Heads are at the machine shop having the Dual Brian Tooley springs installed with all titanium hardware, just waiting to pick up the oil pump to wrap up the front of the block.

Apparantly I forgot to account for the valve job/valves I had done at the shop previously. Brian Tooley recommended my installed spring height to be 1.780, my machinists was only able to get them to 1.720, there was 0.060 missing, we contacted Brian Tooley and they were extremely helpful with resolving the situation, nothing some +50 Locks can't take care of. Still waiting on the heads and oil pump to be done before I can finish buttoning the motor.
On a plus note, I got my LS6 intake in today.
Pulled the 306 out of my fox with the transmission. Now I just have to start taking out all the wiring, lines, etc from the engine compartment. Made a few purchases today.
Team Z K Member, Coils (12*200), A arms, motor mounts.
LS1 throttle body, ported/polished.
I have a lineup on a local semi-built T56, hopefully i'm able to score it.
The Best V8 Stories One Small Block at Time
I had the block basically assembled and realized I made a stupid move, forgot to insert the dowel pins in on the deck before putting the heads on, I took the heads back off and ordered new head gaskets since mine were torqued down to spec and compressed. On a positive note I did get my oil pump back and it now clears the timing chain, I received my K member, turbo, and flaming river manual rack/steering shaft. The majority of my time will be spent on finishing up the block for good, I will then begin installing the team z K and front suspension.
Engine Assembled before I realized my mistake.
