Default Lm7 swap into 83 chevy short bed.

New to site,

I am getting a lm7 engine for my short bed and going to be running boost,if there is a different section for this thread then let me know, i will be getting the engine on friday and will start posting pics of the build while in process, if anyone would like to chime in some info that will help me along the way it would be appreciated.
truck currently has a 383 with a bad hole, has a 700r4 for tranns, havent looked to see what gearing is,truck is lowered 4-6 drop with a notch kit, will be swaping the rear springs back on the axle instead of being under now.
As far as the new engine i will be making my own harness as of right now.in process of choosing what injectors will be needed, not going to be running a bunch of boost 7-12psi, any info or suggestions will help! thanks.

You're gonna love it. I have a an 87 stepside with a 5.3 and stalled 60E and drive it everyday. I'm getting 19mpg and have no issues with it. It's the easiest swap you can do.

Hey I also have a 80 c10 and was wondering what you are going to do with the harness. Are you modifying it you're self? Or sending it somewhere? If so where to? Also what are you going to do for fuel pump??
Thanks carter

First harness I used the junkyard harness and used the PCM in the stock truck location (easiest) and then I built my own out of that harness that put the PCM behind the glove box (regret it). Harness is cake to modify. My truck has twin tanks I used two in tank AEM fuel pumps in the stock location and used a regulated corvette filter after the valve.

Default Harness

I got everything from the junk yard,PCM (ECM),harness, throttle pedal and tac control, i will be removing the two tanks and installing a 15 gal fuel cell.Running an external fuel pump and a corvette style filter/regulator as well. Also will be modifying my own harness to get the ***** to run haha all data and my time will be the help. I will post more pics of the engine soon, I tore down the heads and checked the cylinders all look sweet for having "130k". I also took pan off and checked bearings, plasti gauged and all are well within spec and look really good so iam Rollin with them. Will be ordering new rod bolts and head studs next week.

Did you have to do anything with Tranns crossmember? I have herd mixed reviews on that. The 700r4 that's in my truck shifts sweet now with the 383 in front of it, will my 700r4 bolt up and work?? This is the one questions that has been in my mind ha.

Sell the 700r and get either a 60 or 80. I have a mildly built 60 in my truck now with a huge cooler and stall and have no issues. I just moved my crossmember back an inch or two. Easy as that. I run both my tanks no and love it. Why lost the bed space or spare tire placement with a fuel cell?

Eventually I will be caging it so the lost bed space isn't a big issue, and one of my tanks I don't use (has a crack/pin hole) and leaks, so iam just gettin a cell and calling it a day, and I planned on getting a 80 but still looking, iam saying if I get the engine done and in can I use my 700 just to get the thing on the road for awhile? Or do you have to get that spacer kit or whatever I keep hearing about?

After you go through all the trouble with the flexplate and spacing it would have been easier to just sell the 700R and go with the trans you want. I'm doing a K5 soon and I'll be using the 4x4 6L90E with it

Have a similar swap in my '84 C10 bro. It's in my sig. I will definitely be following along. I have my harness setup for a 4l80e but haven't gotten on yet. I have the old th350 pullling duty behind the iron headed LQ4. I have 2 T70's I am bolting on as well, minus intercooler...since I am not comfortable cutting up the front of my truck. Keep the pics coming.

Yea an 80 is the way to go. With Boost 700r4s and 4L60's just dont hold up...

1st gear in the 80 sort of blows, but with boost you'll want the load anyways so no big deal.

I have a mildly built 60E in my truck behind a stockish 5.3 and it's already complaining. I'm selling my truck and I'll be doing a gen IV motor with a 6L90e. They can handle 1000hp+ stock.

Yea trying to find a 80 around here is like trying to find a needle in a hay stack. Hope fully I can find one before I get to anxious to stab it in front of the 700, either way if I do I'll just run it until it frags haha. Should see my rod bolts Wednesday or Thursday and get the studs and gaskets early next week, will post pics when I get the heads on, then I'll start fabbin the turbo setup. Iam getting a fuel cell for it and will be using a regulator filter setup what type of external fuel pumps you guys running?.

I had an MSD external bc I was a cheap *** and didn't wanna buy two pumps. I plumbed it after the valve and was so damned loud. I would recommend using a hand brake bleeder to pump the fuel versus an external.

All right I'll keep that in mind. Was just curious it's still a ways off but was just on my mind.
