LSeX Boosted Notchback. 5.3,TH400, etc
Guess its time for me to make a build thread! Not a super original one as far as a Conversion goes but owell.
So i picked up a super clean 1993 LX Coupe for 700 dollars. It had the 2.3, auto, blue interior. It ran and drove perfect. No rust. One small dent on the roof. Really good condition for 165k on the clock.
My build is as follows:
It will be a Street/Strip setup. Something i won't drive daily but will be on the street with occasional trips to the drag strip.
Stock bottom end 5.3
LS6 Valve Springs and Head Gaskets
3" intercooled
LS1 Intake
Ebay head studs
Ebay GT45…or possibly a S475 if i decide i want to spend a little more.
Siemens Deka 80's
Holley fuel rails
Sumped fuel cell
AEM 380 Inline Pump
E85
TH400 with Freakshow Performance converter
Stock 8.8
275/60r15 radials
Keep in mind this will be a budget build. Some things i won't skimp on (like fuel system) but some corners will be cut!
Id like to have some 10 second passes once done at my local track, Bandimere Speedway. My goal horsepower is around 500hp at a low boost level (8-12psi)
Im trying to get the car super light so i will need less horsepower to reach said track time. Id like to see 2800 with me in the car. I weigh 200 pounds.
Feel free to toss in any advice, tips, and experiences with your conversions as this is my first.
Thanks!
Day i got her home!
Getting ready to pull the motor!
Got it pulled a few days after picking it up…silly 4 cylinder
New power plant. 2001 5.3 Vortec. 210k miles. Had great oil pressure and compression on all cylinders. Paid 250 bucks for it complete with all accessories, harness and pcm!
Started to tear down the engine
Picked up some really good condition LT1 fans and radiator for 50 bucks!
Got the AJE Racing K Member, LS mounts and manual rack! so purdy
Doing some cheap-ish mods while i save up for other things. Painted the valve covers a textured black
For funsies
Im thinking purple and black for the engine bay scheme. Going with the brighter purple
Decided i would somewhat clean up the engine bay. Welded some of the smaller holes in the bay. Not getting crazy.
Cleaned, sanded and primed the bay. It will soon be Satin Black.
Made a custom panel to help clean up the bay. Still need to weld and prime it. I also have a few Scott Rod Fab pieces that will go on the firewall area to aid in covering the holes.
That is as far as i am at the moment. Wont be a speedy build as i am trying to do it on a budget.

Lookin good so far! You should be able to hit your goal pretty easy. I'm doing a similar build only with a 6.0. And as for your converter I'd check out ptc and circle d both are great company's to deal with and you definitely want a quality converter. Good luck on your build!

Yea i emailed PTC about a trans and stall for my setup and never heard back. Probably just give them a call. I've heard good things about them. Thanks for the recommendations

So my next area of parts to buy is the fuel system...specifically the pump, regulator and fuel cell. But to stick with my "budget" build, I'd like to not do a fuel cell if I don't need to. That being said, I'm considering the Aeromotive 340 for in the stock tank. My question to swap guys is will the stock foxbody fuel lines suffice for my goals? If so, what needs to be done to adapt to the stock 5.3 truck fuel rails. They have a built in regulators so I shouldn't need an aftermarket correct? If not, will the corvette filter/reg work with boost?

Yea i plan on going e85 so that would be something I would need to account for. I should probably just run a fuel cell with correct lines since I will eventually be doing that anyway lol

My gutted foxbody with LS3, powerglide and Novi2000 blower weigh 2844 with me inside, and I'm 200lbs. The car does have a ten point cage, but the only place I could save more weight would be gutting doors, and fiberglass body panels. Everything else is already gone. Not much of a street car at that point, but it is tagged and insured. Good luck with your project.

Your goals should be easy to attain. My stock bottom end lq4 with a tc76 through a full exhaust with pump gas and no meth netted me a 9.8@140 in my notch. Stock 4l80 with a ptc converter and stock 317 heads with a tooley spec'd cam. Mine is full street trim and has ac (only thing is its manual steering, but with skinnies you can barely tell). It made 585rwhp on 15psi which was the 9.8@140 pass. Mine weighs 3160 with me in the car and I weigh 160.

I'd be giddy like a schoolgirl if I dipped into the 9's. And I'll hopefully be a few hundred pounds lighter than you which will make it a little easier. Thanks for the input!
