Default ls exhaust manifold selection

hi which ls exhaust manifold hugs the engine the most yet still dumps in the rear? I have the truck manifolds which could be made to work if they swept closer to the engine. I think if I angle milled the truck manifolds I could possibly get enough room but only want to go that route as a last resort. I also have the 04 gto manifolds but they dip too low. will the Camaro manifolds give me the room I need? see pics. tia

I am trying to do an ls conversion on a 1957 Pontiac safari. right now its hitting the steering sector even when the engine is shifted 1 inch right in the frame. trying to find a manifold that will give me some more clearance.

what year do you suggest I look at? the pictures I have seen look like they would dump in the center right where my steering sector is.

what about converting the steering setup to a power rack and pinion?

would get rid of that steering box and you could shift the engine back over

I'm not sure if the Camaro ones are any tighter on the driver's side, but there's a picture in there if it helps at all.

I sort of recall seeing someone post a pic of some
"block hugger" shorty headers, these were always a
popular thing for SBC swaps into older vehicles. But
I can't recall which subforum or how long ago, now.

Might find some help in the Conversions section?

Default try these

I used the 1997 Corvette "sheet metal" manifolds on my 1935 Ford...they clear my steering pretty well.

F-body..(Camaro) manifolds are all I have ever used in all my swaps...they hug very close to the block, dump position is perfect for a lot of applications...

These photos are of F-body manifolds in a 1972 A-body chassis (Chevelle)...

I have the 98 corvette manifolds in the picture. Let me know if you think they will work for you. I will sell them cheap if you want them.

Here are mine, after ceramic coating. A friend found them on eBay for me. Seller said that they were from a Cadillac CTS-V.

They are currently installed in my 1970 International Harvester Scout.

The newer LS3 Camaro manifolds tuck pretty close to the block and dump in the rear.

Sanderson makes a good variety of headers for LS motors, and they are great to work with. I ordered mine in plain steel then we modified the driver side to fit around the steering. Once done we sent them back for ceramic coating. They even provided scrap pieces to use while modding the header. They are so precise they do not even use a gasket between the header and the head, just sealer. I have had them on for 8 years and 30k miles and they still look great and no leaks. http://www.sandersonheaders.com/Chevrolet-LS1-Headers/
