Default gen 4 5.3 with gen 3 oil pan

So I have a gen 4 5.3 that uses the internal filter by pass on the stock pan. This pan will not fit in my 64 Bel Air frame so im using a 98-02 fbody pan. The fbody pan has an external filter by pass and im unsure how to make it work on my gen 4. Any help would be greatly appreciated. My gen 3 oil pan is on the bottom, gen 4 is on the top

Let me talk this over with my "LS Guru"...my son, he has worked with strictly LS performance stuff for almost 10 years and he has faced all of these challenges.

My hotrod has a '98 F body pan on a 2000 block with no problems, I'll get back to you.

So I hope this helps, but are you assuming that the port on cover shown is the external oil bypass? If so, it is not. That port should be blocked in an fbody application. It is drilled and tapped in Corvette applications.

To make it work, as was in the other post, you really just need to use the correct fbody oil filter.

The pan I need to use is the pan off of a 98-02 fbody. The truck pan that was originally on my 5.3 has an internal bypass filter. So If I understand you correctly, block off the external port, then run the correct filter? Which filter do I need ? Thank you very much for the replys

What is that port on my fbody pan?

That is not an oil filter bypass, it's a pair of ports used with an oil cooler. Without the cooler the fitting just routes oil from one port to another. That needs to be maintained, do not block it.
The external upward facing port was used on corvettes for an oil temp sensor. You can block off that threaded external port.

Ok, just so im understanding, the pan I will be putting on my 2007 5.3ls is the bottom pan in the picture of my first post. The two large holes built into the pan are for an oil cooler, and the external port that sticks out from the side of the pan I can block off?

Yes, or swap over the fitting from the old pan.

The cover which you describe is often called the bypass cover but it really does not bypass anything. It directs 100% of the engine oil flow from the first oil pan hole to the second oil pan hole. It can be used for oil coolers but most OEM applications do not have oil coolers. You can replace the cover with aftermarket cover for a remote oil cooler.

There should not be a hole all the way through the cover the port which I circled in the previous image for an fbody oil pan. There was only a hole drilled all the way through and then tapped for the Corvette oil pan. You should not have to block off that port at all, but you should check just in case, otherwise 100% of the engine oil will spew out that hole and no oil will go to the engine.

As was mentioned above, you can swap the cover from the 5.3 oil pan onto the fbody oil pan and there is no functional difference. Often people drill and tap that port on the fbody pan cover to install a sender for an aftermarket oil pressure gauge.

So the flange on my fbody pan in your post that you marked that has a hole in it, could I use that for my oil feed line for my turbocharger?

Some good information on the 5.3 and the use of a LS1 oil pan. I have a 5.3 and need to find an oil pan from a LS1. As everyone knows the original pan from the 5.3 is too deep. Thanks

I think it depends on the driving style you plan to do. If you X-cross or aggress street driving, I'd get it. Piece of mind. Cheap insurance.
