Default Looking for ideas on 350rwhp

Trying to locate an LS engine for a swap and the goal is ~350rwhp (automatic trans). The vehicle will only be driven roughly 3,000 miles/year as long as I own it, so a complete pull out engine with 60,000+ miles on it doesn't bother me. Although, not quite sure how high I'm willing to go on the mileage without knowing how the engine was cared for during its life (maybe 100,000 or so).

I'm trying to keep the weight down and don't anticipate wanting more HP out of the motor down the road, so I would prefer an aluminum block (of course, understanding there is a premium on these).

What is the smartest/most economical way of getting to 350rwhp with an aluminum LS?

I would like to get the project going asap, so if anyone knows of an engine/trans for sale that would work, please feel free to point me in the right direction.

Just a basic LS1 with bolt ons will get you there

350 is a very attainable goal. It won't take much at all depending on where you start. The aluminum part may be your bigger obstacle.

Thoughts on whether or not it would be more cost effective to get to 350 wheel hp with an L33 or LS1/LS3?

In the end, it would probably be about the same cost. L33 are cheaper than ls1, you will need a mild cam change, maybe an intake swap, and spin it a little harder. It will be down a little on torque compared to the ls1. It really depends on your budget and what vehicle it is going into.

I put down 330rwhp with a stock 99 LS1, bolt on where was only a LS6 intake, CAI and long tube headers. Add a CAM and you'll easily be past 350 with a good turner.

If I buy a 100,000 mile L33, what would it cost to rebuild it to 430hp (~350rwhp)?

Assuming a normal life in a truck and it runs good, I'd run it as is. Unless your 3000 miles are done a 1/4 mile at a time. Just change cam, springs, push rods, intake(ls1/ls6), set of long tube headers, and tune. Cost on a rebuild will only be determined after teardown and inspection. It could be as simple as a re-ring and a valve job. These engines wear like iron and take a lot of abuse.
