One fan is usually more than adequate on an LS. The problem with running a radiator with a core wide enough for two fans is that the opening in the core support is only so wide, so putting in a wider core wouldn't help unless you want to cut the core support up.

I am running a stock 4th gen f-body radiator and fans on my 71 Nova. As LS1Nova71 stated. I had to open up the opening of the core support about 1 1/2" to make sure I had full air flow to all if the radiator core. So if you pick up a aluminum raditor that is a direct fit for a 4th gen f-body, that should work with the same mounting and mod I did.

It was not hard to open it up and mount the raditor and fans. You can see what I did in my build thread (link in my sig).

If you've got the patience to do a little research and know the dimensions you'd like to have in a radiator, poke around in RockAuto a while. Click into various years/makes/models and look at the "INFO" button for the radiators available. It will give measurements, inlet and outlet sizes, number of cores, width of each core and so on. After about 90 minutes of research, I ended up using a radiator made for an 80s Chevy truck in mine.

Once you arrive at the right size, you don't *have* to go with the plastic tank aluminum core they have available, but you'll at least know what vehicle to order a fully aluminum radiator for to stick in your car. I did go with the suggested radiator because it's cheap, well made, light and more than efficient enough to cool car. I have a single fan from a 98 Bonneville in mine and the car gets beat hard.

I did have to move the battery. I position the radiator to clean the battery tray and them mounted it. About 3/4" to 1" away from the battery tray. Just drilled the positioning hole in the bottom of the core support for the f-body bottom radiator mount and then used the Nova's factory top rubber mount. Fans are already mounted to the radiator. Simple and cheap.

Check out the build in my signature.
I had a C&R radiator with dual fans.
In the end, I went with a thinner dual pass from Griffin but I still have duals.
I wanted duals due to me running the A/C condenser, intercooler and radiator as a three layer sandwich...

Default 4th Gen Rad/Fan

+1 for the 4th Gen setup. I scored the rad and fan from a junkyard donor for a song. They have served me great for 6000+ miles. Never any overheating problems and I rarely have to run both fans. Be sure to TEST the fan before you leave the junkyard! The first fan set I found; the bearing sounded like a bag of marbles when winding down! Here is a couple shots of the rad/fan package during my build

I used adhesive backed foam to seal the rad

I squeezed a G&R race car rad in the core support. Some serious modifications were necessary, but the radiator was cheap.
Made the shroud myself and run a the biggest single Spal fan i could fit.
