It's just something I like to do and I have had very good results in the past..... Plus I just like to do as much as possible on my rides myself..... So far I have done everything except the cage and upholstery work on seats/door panels.....
That's as good a reason as any. I was just curious...
Made some progress on the heads today..... Got all the rocker bolt bumps out of the intake runners, then I roughed in the intake bowl area on both heads where I made a hole in the other head..... I roughed both sides of the intake bowl area on one port, I will make some more progress tomorrow.....
Here is where all the intake runners are at this point.....
Here is the one I roughed the entire bowl area.....
Almost forgot, I did get the valve covers painted this week.....
Porting aluminum is not too bad. It can actually be enjoyable when you get in the zone. Now cast iron on the other hand takes a special kind of dedication.
Nice work Frank, but I gotta tell you, making aluminum dust for hours doesn't sound like a good time...LOL

It's not something I would like to do all the time but it's not so bad every once and a while.....

The aluminum cuts much easier but it is also far easier to make unwanted ruts in if you don't keep moving.....
I got my alt only bracket earlier this week, I had to drill the upper hole in the truck block for it but it fits well..... I also ordered a Powermaster 165 amp alt and ARP hardware to use in the bracket, I arrived Friday so I will get it on the block and find the necessary belt this week.....
Today I was able to get all the exhaust ports roughed in, the sanding role work will commence tomorrow.....
Here is the alt bracket attached to the shortblock.....
Here is the port opening before and after roughing in.....
Here is the bowl area before and after roughing in.....
and here is the opening after the port floor was roughed.....
Got the chambers in the second head done, deburred both heads and cleaned up all sealing surfaces..... Then washed the thouroghly..... Ready to lap the valves in and install springs/retainers now..... Also cleaned up the giant mess on my bench.....
After work today I cut the mounting boss of the outside of my CS130D alt case because they loo like **** if you do not need them(I have done this a couple times on customers LS swaps we have done where this boss is not necessary for the aftermarket drive systems)..... Then I got it mounted on the motor with the new low mount alt only bracket I got earlier..... I also got some nice ARP Stainless hardware for the new bracket.....
Here is the boss I am talking about and it being removed.....
