The 996's varied the fuel system over their years of production. Mine has a pressure and a return. Then there is the vent return line that went to a recirculation valve on the top drivers side of the Porsche engine. Once the engine warmed up it would vent the fumes from the fuel tank into the intake to burn them. I took and cut the plastic hard line and capped it off. Man that system was a pain, I had my recirculation valve go bad and you would have to crank the car for 30 seconds after getting gas. I'll be glad to not have to worry about it anymore.
What heat thermostat are you going to run ? I wanted my thermostat as close to the motor as possible, thinking it would open after the motor got a little higher then the thermostat. I even put a 160 in it thinking that the motor would be at around 180 by the time the thermostat opened. After talking to RH I changed mine to a 195. Now the motor stays around 200-210, as I was told LS's like more heat.
I'm not up and running yet but I am going to try starting with a 180. I want to be running where you are recommending so I might switch up to the 195. I'm going to give it a shot with what I have right now and monitor both my gauge temp (I have the Porsche sensor in the head like you do) and with a infarred gun. My remote thermostat is mounted up about 3-4 inches to the left of where yours is. I am running 12AN (3/4in) line to both ends of the Renegade cooling block. I am going to run a Meizere bulkhead pump. Ill upload a shot of where I have it mounted. This allowed me to keep about 95% of the Porsche cooling system stock. All I had to do was cut off the curved ends of the 1 1/2" hard tube on both the drivers and passenger side.
I'm kicking around a few ideas with the intake. One of them is using a GT3 rear decklid and kicking the air filter off to the side. Another is to simply throw in the towel and put in a turbocharger or two like 1dirtyZ.
I got lucky on mine being a C4S it had the cutout dimples for the turbo pipes on each side, so I cut out the Rt side for the intake pipe (4") to the wheel well, where I had to make fender wells to keep road grime off air cleaners (2ea). I like the idea of routing it to the deck lid.
Here is a K/N filter on a M96 996.. obviously would have to redesign due to our clearance issues. There is lots of controversy on the Porsche side as to if the K/N setup actually gives you any gains. IMO thats what you get trying to squeeze more HP out of the already maxed out 3.4l engine.

Yep, and you still have to remove your upper and lower latch mech and bracket. I put some Velcro on my hinges, don't laugh, the air flow and the struts seem to hold it closed, I haven't asked RH how they did it, still thinking about maybe some kind of a cabinet close mech or something that can be adapted, can't do hood pins cause of my red lens.
