Ya I don't understand why people get rid of vvt either. With the cam/electronics I have this motor will put out almost 400ft lbs of torque at 2500 rpm and should have close to 530 hp . They dynoed a stock ly6 with this cam made 509 hp. I have a ls3 intake 42 lb injectors 17/8 long tubes 3/8 pushrods so I'm hoping for a bit more

Sorry, maybe I missed your cam in the thread.

Which cam are you using?

Mast motorsports ss cam/ springs for ly6 along with their ecm/harness. They used to sell an ly6 with this package as a crate motor so the tune is spot on. They even have the ability to remotely tune the ecm crazy ****. They have Dyno results posted on their site. It's why I went with them. I wanted a real fast daily driver with ac

Ok update time car is running great after I got a new tune from mast. Had to change tune because I am running a ls3 Bosch map sensor. They emailed it to me and I installed with their display software. Also rec driveshaft from strange and 3in exhaust from hooker. Exhaust is perfect! I am extremely happy with it.car is scary fast! Shifting was erratic and turns out I have a bad controller. Waiting on replacement. But I did bang second gear car went sideways had to let off! It was at night with wife in the car lol here is some pics of exhaust. I will try to take some more pics I've just been so busy

I'm digging the tail pipes

As a daily driver, you will like that you kept the vvt. So many people want to ditch it, but it really helps broaden the torque curve.
Casias, you might want to reconsider using an R4 compressor. Even the new ones leak and throw oil everywhere. I've had 3 on my low mileage 442 and plan to upgrade to a Sanden. The new compressor on my car now ruined my expensive NOS hood felt. Complete garbage in my opinion.

Great build! I almost picked up an 83 cutlass a while ago, they are my favorite g-body.

You should put up some pictures of the whole car. Love the hoist too I would like one in my shop, I have used them in the past.

Everything is coming together nicely Jimmyg, I'd really like to see that car on the track at LSFest later this year...just planting the seed for you as there no other place you'll have more fun with an LS powered car.

Default Fuel line proximity to Hooker tailpipes

Toddoky,

Do you know how close the hooker tailpipes come to the factory fuel line location? GM used a heat shield on the VIN 9 cars (442, H/O, MCSS, etc) to protect the fuel lines as a safety precaution.

If you can post a photo of the heat shield in question, I (or jimmyg here) can take a reference measurement for you in that area.

jimmyg doesn't have the shield because his car isn't the 442 model but your Monte Carlo SS car should have it. It protects the fuel lines where the hard lines connect to the rubber hose. It's a good idea for any G body with dual exhaust and factory fuel lines.

Since this is a safety concern I'm asking the question to compare the hooker system to the factory dimension.

jimmyg, I like your build. Sorry to hijack. I can move this discussion to the hooker thread if needed....

I will be back at my garage tomorrow night I can take a few pics of fuel lines in relation to tail pipes but my car is a y code 307 car no heat shield . But honestly if I had to choose between my factory fuel lines and this exhaust they would lose. It's that nice

I really dig the sleeper character of your car jimmyg, my visual tastes lean more towards subdued and clean instead of flashy these days. I'm working on a 79 Chevy truck restoration currently and I plan on keeping all the body moldings and embellishments that everyone usually strips off and throws away. Have you gotten your car fired up yet?

Oh ya. Runs mint. The tune from mastmotorsports was spot on . That why I went the route I did. It was all plug and play. They used to sell this exact set up as a package. I'm currently waiting for a trans controller as my first one was defective. It would not go into 3 rd gear under any kind of load, would not power down etc. As for the body, I'm torn part of me wants to lower it and take off all chrome, black out bumpers etc. or just fix paint and keep it stock
